Splatoon's legs were shorter than expected, it was (and will get) outsold by pretty much every other big release, I can understand why they wanted to make Splatoon 3

In terms of software:
---------------------------
Mario:
The Nintendo Switch version of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (35.39 million) is now less than 2 million units away from tying Mario Kart Wii (37.38 million) as the best selling individual Mario Kart title in the franchise. AND it is now less than 5 million away from surpassing the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES (40.24 million) as the best selling Mario game, ever.
Super Mario Odyssey (20.83 million) is now the 4th best selling platformer, 2D or 3D, in the series, surpassing Super Mario World on the SNES (20.61 million). It now trails New Super Mario Bros. Wii (30.32 million), New Super Mario Bros. for the DS (30.80 million) and the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES (40.24 million).
Paper Mario: The Origami King (3.12 million) is a now 1.11 million units away from tying Super Paper Mario (4.23 million) as the best selling Paper Mario title in the franchise.
-----------------------------------
Zelda:
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Switch (5.49 million) is now just 1.02 million units away from tying the original Legend of Zelda on the NES (6.51 million) for the best selling 2D Zelda game in the franchise.
-----------------------------------
Pokémon:
Sword/Shield (21.1 million) is now just 2 million away from tying Gold/Silver (23.1 million) as the 2nd best selling set of titles in franchise history.

Will VGChartz be adjusting their numbers based on this quarter's shipments. I mean shipments for this quarter have clearly fallen behind sell-through again like last year (4.72 to 5.96), but the overall shipment number still leads sell-through by about 2 million during the same period. Regardless I would HATE to have to adjust my sell-through numbers down for the quarter.

Those first party numbers are insane. All games in the top ten best sellers of the system are first parties, and all of them are above 10m, and six games are above 20m. Pokemon SwSh is going to pass Gold/Silver this year. Hell, Ring Fit Adventure passed the 10m mark, becoming the best selling fitness game that doesn't have the "Wii" brand attached to it.
Now I wonder if Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can outsell the XBOne. It certainly seems in track to the +50m units...
| S.Peelman said: The stellar hardware sales and profit are overshadowed by the insane software sales. It’s unbelievable, every title there is going above and beyond. Mario Kart 8 is now at Wii’s doorstep, who ever thought that would happen. How high will it go. It’ll also stay in front of Animal Crossing, which I did expect. Zelda just keeps going. Pokemon is as high as had been in the early days. Ring Fit flew by 10M. Too much to mention. I can’t even begin to imagine what the Switch numbers are going to look like when it’s all said and done years from now. |

Although Super Mario Bros was weird, since it wasn't JUST Mario, you also had Tetris and World Cup on the same cartridge.

Cheers; so when Luigi's Mansion 3 joins the list in a few months, it'll have the most 10-million-plus sellers of any system ever?
Splatoon 3, BOTW2, Diamond/Pearl remakes and Legends Arceus also look basically guaranteed to join the club, bringing it to 16, minimum.
Great numbers. I will say one thing for sure: I think we can put the global sell-through estimate debate to rest with one stat:
December 2020 74 Million (79.87M Sell-IN)
March 2020 81 Million (84.59M Sell-IN)
+7 Million is simply absurd.

Nintendo had a profit of 5 Billion+ which is more than Sony's best of 3 Billion and certainly better than Microsoft. Only gaming divisions that may have been more profitable are Apple or Tencent but not 100% sure. |
