though switch being in short supply implies at this point that they are stockpiling for MHR

What I was thinking. Also how many of the limited edition consoles will likely be produced?

Yeah the ratio of the OG Switch to the Lite strongly suggests the former is still in short supply.

Just two weeks now til MH Rise hits, hope they can manage enough supply to make the most of its opening week.

It's quite possible that part of the current shortage is just from stockpiling consoles for the MH:R release. It should do over 200k that week at the very least

Yeah, I actually think this week is a milestone for the PS5, since neither of those titles are new.  PS5 now has an install base big enough where they can actually get titles in the top 30 regularly, even when there isn't a new PS5 release.

Without stock issues Switch would have sold +100k. There's no way that the Lite model almost sells as much as the original model.

  • Two Weeks left Hardware Gap is 311.979, on average Switch needs 156K sales per week to be the 2nd best result ever in Q1 behind DS's 1.95 million
  • In terms of Software the gap is 1.2 million so I won't be surprised with Monster Hunter Rise launch the Top 20 to be around 6 million
  • Momotaro has greatly outperformed previous evergreen titles on the Switch in Q1, game is heading towards at least 1.5 million sales this year
  • Ring Fit and Mario Kart 8 will greatly outperform their last year result, in the case of Ring Fit it's still supply constrained and selling at a premium
  • There will be around 5 titles that were launched this Quarter that are going make the Top 20 - Monster Hunter Rise, Bowser's Fury, Olive Town, Bravely Default 2, Little Nightmares 2/Densha GO!

Next quarter is when things get really interesting as there is Monster Hunter Rise, combined with a streak of software titles that will be providing momentum to hardware. By mid-year in 2020 Switch had sold 2.66 million hardware while Top 20 Software was at 9.31 million. This year we are heading towards 3 million hardware and 12 million software. The main difference being that at least 50% of software sales will be third party compared to 8% last year

Based on physical copies sold, I think its safe to say DeS surpassed 100k+ lifetime in Japan, with digital sales included.

While it's something to see multiple PS5 games make the top 30, and not new releases either, 40k and 43k LTD for it's two biggest launch titles after four months is a bit underwhelming to say the least.
