Hey everyone. We've begun posting the articles that announce the results of VGChartz's official GOTY Awards. We'll be posting 2-3 a day until the winners (and runners-up) of all 19 categories are revealed.

I'll link to each one with a post in this thread and also collect them together in this OP so you can easily find them all.

As for the methodology used for determining the winners/runners-up - it's a neat 50/50 weighting between the community and staff. The results of the community and staff polls are converted into percentages, combined, and then averaged, to give a final overall percentage.

We kick things off with Best Action Game of 2020. This was a pretty two-sided battle, between Hades and Hyrule Warriors; all the other titles in that category were well behind the pace. The winner received just over 28% of the vote, the runner-up just under 25%.

Hades is amazing. Between it and Cyberpunk as my overall GOTY

Best Adventure Game of 2020 is next. The winning game here was the only one to break the 20% mark. 

Nice to see all of the adventure titles being so different from each other this year, lots of variety to choose from. I'm somewhat surprised that 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim didn't release on PC or the Switch. I mean, the game released last year in Japan, they could've have the game ported easily enough. A shame, it looks really interesting.

13 Sentinels is a very niche game made by a small developer. Hopefully it gets ported to other platforms in the future but it is understandable that the devs most likely could only focus on one platform at a time.

Best Platformer of 2020

A fairly decisive win this one, which was a bit of a surprise given how strong the category is this year. The winner got almost 40% of the vote.

Thanks for your work. A wish if I could make one: could you give the split between staff and user voting? And point out if either staff or users alone had a different winner (probably only in cases that were close).

Out of the 4, I could only put my vote towards Astro's Playroom.  Which is a shame b/c Ori & Crash look like stellar titles to evaluate alongside it.
