Hi @brute I think if someone read this question a few months ago, they might have thought you are a troll. But looking at how sales are going this holiday season, this question is now a very valid one. It would be very unfortunate if it doesn't reach the 118.69 needed, As of right now it would need about 4M units more. If it sells like the PS3 sold after the release of the PS4, then it would have 8.25M left. Just by looking at that you might say that it is a guarantee that it will, but right now the PS4 is way below what the PS3 sold in its first holiday with a new console. If you look at Year 8 Month 11, then you see that PS3 sold .9M and PS4 sold .6M, that is about a 33% drop (or 38.84% if you divide the actual values). If we multiply that drop for the entire las 3 years, then we get that the PS4 would sell 5M. So even if it keeps selling with this horrible ratio compared to the PS3, it should be able to reach the GB (but not the 120M milestone). We will just have to wait at least a few months to maybe get a better picture. Certainly 2021 will do most of the remaining sales of the PS4, therefore if it is not able to sell at least 2.5 million from this november until October 2021 (1.6M more than what it has sold), then it probably won't reach the GB. |
I remember making the prediction either early this year or last year that the PS4 will not pass 120 mil. Of course people thought I was dumb, but it looks like it might be the case.

Definitely, it may be looking to have worse legs than many of us expected but it will still almost certainly manage to crawl passed 120 million.

Thank you @trunkswd for this mini series, it is very nice to see all the different regions as well.
I have done a little analisis that includes the 3DS, PS4 and the XOne. I also tried to compare the same holiday season for all 6 consoles (this means I am not comparing the launch to the NS launch but rather the first Black Friday of the NS and also 3DS).
Here is the table of every week:
The PS5 is still ahead from all other 5 consoles. Next week should be very interesting, as both the NS and 3DS start to sell over a million units per week. If the PS5 behaves similar to the PS4 then there might be a little boost next week.
This is what the cumulative chart looks like:
It seems unlikely that the PS5 will be able to outsell the NS in the first 7 week totals, but we will just have to wait and see.
NS unstoppable
PS5 and XBSS/X most probably supply issues
PS4 hovering at very low level for the last gen leader, at this point, supposing that Sony still has plans for PS4, they must have been suspended until PS5 initial hype will have dampened and demand settled after the launch and Xmas period peak.
