Wow... PS5 is really struggling. Even Wii U sold better during that timeframe. Switch is just unstoppable.

Remember this: The Wii U is doing better than the PS5 if you allign the weeks. On a country that supposedly has moved on from home consoles.
Let that sink in.
And this situation will keep on going at least until March, most likely. It's such a sad perspective. Maybe it's a bit early to say, but it seems that Sony has given up on Japan.
The Switch did great, but truth be told, I was expecting more from it.
Software numbers are great, especially for the Konami game. That is not the kind of game that I want Konami seeing making success, but oh well, better than nothing if that means Konami will be more willing to invest on gaming. At least be willing to lend it's IPs for other developers to make.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

This only means Sony hates japan. They could produce more units for the launch of PS5 than for PS4, yet still managed to deliver less of them to japan. Also for the games: the attach rate is below 1. So people bought PS5 without a game. |
Astrobot, his impact!

Didn't they delay PS4 in Japan all together?
It seems this is more or less the same situation but this time they threw Japan a bone. I don't think we can really read too much into it apart from other markets (particularly where MS is competitive) equal priority and the system is extremely supply constrained.

Or, perhaps, English isn't your primary language and you need to work on your composition. |
Their lack of comprehension has nothing to do with my composition. Perhaps you and others simply don't have such logic based skills, and through a pathetic attempt at avoiding the point, have to resort to misplaced comments to make up for your own inadequacies.
I'll try and lower the bar for you and others since you seem to be struggling.

EVERYONE else in these Famitsu threads is talking about Japan only though. Only you bring up worldwide, but it's irrelevant to this discussion. Why is this so hard for you to understand? Famitsu threads discuss Japan only sales. There are plenty of other threads here that talk about global sales, take these discussions there where they will actually make some sense. As for this week's numbers: seems that all software is up, and I'm pleasantly surprised to see PS4 rebound a bit this week. Switch pretty much matches YoY, which I honestly expect for the rest of the year. XBox Series consoles holding on ok too. |
I don't know how much clearer I can be:
JP software sales tied to JP hardware sales which is tied to global hardware production. So if the point is JP software sales are low, then global hardware production being sold out is as on topic as it gets.

With digital being higher than ever on PS in JP, PS5 players buying PS4 software, PS+ free games being more popular than most retail games, a digital only SKU making up 20% of sales and PS+ collection, going on about attach ratio by only looking at physical is moot.
You're also wrong. At this point in time, Sony sold 0 PS4s.

Wii Fit Famitsu Sales:
One of the big holiday games for this year still hasn't had it's bigger shipments to actually drive demand for hardware. This week only 50K units were sold. The main question is how many can Nintendo actually supply for the next three weeks. The bigger Ring Fit Shipments the more Docked Switches that will be sold this holiday. Have you wondered why Lites maintain the same level of sales despite being far more readily available in Japan. Most people want a Switch to play Ring Fit Adventure and because of this they are focused to such a degree on the docked version.

On one hand you can say it's good because of the lack of a big holiday game this year, but on the other hand it's not good enough to surpass the bar of 6m for the year 2020. Looks like ~500k for the remaining two weeks is what can realistically be expected, bringing the total to ~5.9m for the year. @tbone51 should be happy, because a relatively weak finish for 2020 raises the odds of his prediction coming true. (2021 being a bigger year than 2020.)

Have you considered the fact that 2020 has 53 weeks? Arguably an unfair advantage when comparing the two years, but if 2020 is counted as a 53 week year then it should definitely hit 6 mil.

DerbyStallion is below 22K this week, legs are not great, something I feared due to it's high price - it needs the price to be lowered by 1 |
Looking at Amazon reviews gives me the impression that it's not just the price that's the issue.

Wii U was also beating PS3 and PS4, so that doesn't really tell us much.
