Sheesh.

#17 - The game measures your progress using the alphabet.
Hint 2 - Only the first five letters signify any meaningful progress, though.

Nier Automata

The last set of hints was solved far too quickly, so these can be a little harder.

14) In previous games in this series, triggering too many alarms would insta-fail the level. Here it just summons a small army of guards.

13) One of this game's many emotional moments features an interesting take on a Gilbert and Sullivan song.

12) This 3D platformer also includes an in-universe 2D platformer.

11) A guy goes really far out of his way for a rematch in a 1v1 duel.

10) Like its predecessor but with more light and gel

Portal 2

Yakuza 0 (PS4)

Change YOY: +4

A lot of open world games have become increasingly focused on sheer scale, making vast worlds filled with interchangeable fetch quests and objective markers that fail to make the player care for any of the tasks asked of them. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum is Yakuza 0. The map in this open world game would barely even count as an intro area in a lot of other modern games in the genre, and yet because of all the things the game fills that world with, it ends up feeling bigger and more alive than almost any other video game world today (looking at you Ubisoft).

There is also no other game I've played that has managed to balance comedy and drama this well. You can go from a life and death battle against your former Yakuza boss to a side quest where Kiryu must train a dominatrix to get better in her job. It's silly and serious in equal measure, swinging from one extreme to the other sometimes at a moment's notice, and yet it all somehow works. It's a brilliant game, with no element ever detracting from the overall package, and featuring some of my favourite moments of storytelling and voice acting in video game history.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Green Stars)

No. Guess that hint does apply to a lot of games, doesn't it?

The "second game" here wasn't originally going to be put in the game because it'd make the filesize too big.

The Legend of Zelda

You can't stand that @Jpcc86 has guessed more games than you, right? All three correct, which puts you both on 9 guessed games.

More hints from me:

16. Developers have revealed an inside joke about this game.  A certain common collectable is actually poop.

15. Second arcade game in a series that made 4 player co-op popular.

14. The only mainline game in this series that is a side scroller.

13. At one part of this tactical RPG, you shrink down and have to fight chess pieces.

12. Choose from three different playable characters in this arcade game from SEGA.

11. The gypsy at the beginning gives you a series of questions that decides your character class.

I need more of these old games.  I feel like I have an advantage on those.

A few older ones are still left.
