Forums - Sony Discussion - Critics agree that Sony's PS5 transcends on-paper comparisons to Xbox, and is the only new console that "feels" next-gen from the first moment

Is PS5 the only gen 9 system?

yes 10 38.46%

YES, but in CAPS. 16 61.54%

Total:26

The main advantage PS5 has is launch exclusives like Spiderman and Demon Souls being the highlights. Also a new controller design which has overwhelmingly positive impressions.

That said, numerous hardware comparisons favor Series X. I won’t list them all but it’s unanimous Xbox has better engineered hardware and software features/capabilities. But ultimately to the end user, the new controller and better launch lineup are more noticeable.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

The best thing both PS5 and XSX can do right now is playing old games or new games that are available in older platforms. Looks like both suck as "next gen" experiences to me right now xD

Dark souls looks like it can be done last gen. The world is not as opens nd the world is static. So for me it's not impressive. Don't get me wrong its a good looking game.

Don't forget the Tempest audio tech.

Dual Sense haptics is a gimmick. There, I said it.When Nintendo revealed HD Rumble, the same was said. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

PS5 Pros:

Controller
UI
SSD Speed (remains to be seen what difference this will actaully make)
SSD Expansion non-proprietary (when it's actually enabled)
Wifi 6 (Potential for future wireless VR?)

XSX Pros:

Slightly more powerful
Smaller
Freesync
1440p Support
More storage

XSX is essentially just the Xbox One but more powerful, nothing much else to it. OS is the same.

PS5 feels like a more traditional new experience built from scratch that we have come to expect from a new generation, but in doing so run into the usual missing OS features at launch, most noticeably ssd expansion right now.

What the PS5 lacks in power it makes up in other areas making for what in my opinion seems like a more balanced modern machine, however it is currently lacking in some areas and freesync/vrr support should be added. 1440p too but I don't expect they'll ever bother with this.

Can't back up your saves via USB on PS5. Giant Bomb UI walkthrough shows it's missing a lot of basic features PS4 has. BC is confusing. The system can't even lay on its side without attachments and a screw that everyone will lose. PS5 seems rushed esp in UI.

What confusion do you have regarding the BC?

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Curious to know what defines a next gen system. Both systems have features the other doesnt.I guess my future Nvidia 30 series PC wont be considered a next gen system either because ill still be using a traditional mouse and keyboard.
