I'm pretty sure the guy is making giant assumptions.

That statement is from Bethesda saying they will continue to publish their games until the acquisition goes into effect in 2021. Microsofts statement said the Xbox Game Studio will publish their games.

There is of course a chance that this happens, as it wouldn't be a first for MS, but all this is is a guy calling his shot.

I want this to be true and I want you to be right. But I will always fear GamePass could become big enough for Micro to think they don't need to release anywhere else. This is what I do about pretty much everything, I look at the worst case scenario so that I prepare myself mentally for the huge loss. lol

That doesn't really seem like a logical step to me. I mean, in the majority of cases they'd make more money by somebody buying a new game day 1 for full price than they would that person subscribing to game pass. So why leave money on the table?

Actually releasing the games potentially earns more money (much more for big ones like Fallout), while game pass earns more reliable/regular money. Having both is surely better than having just one.

Maybe because Steam takes a huge chunk of the pie? Maybe because Micro can grow that GamePass thing enough to not care about releasing on other Platforms/launchers?

I mean, it isn't like Micro and Sony are always dying to release their exclusives on other platforms, although Sony just released Horizon and may be a shift on approach to exclusives in general.

Thinking the worst.

I don't know what to think anymore. lol

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Yeah, hardly a reliable source.

There was a thread about him earlier today and his estimation of Switch selling around Wiu numbers..

TBH, he may be in line for Pachters throne.

But honestly this is wtf news lol. I thought exclusives were anti consumer..

How is this future different from how the console market is right now and always has been?

On one hand, there's making your own first party games and giving people a reason to buy your platform.

Then, there's forming partnerships and relationships with other companies so that they support or favor your platform.

This is just straight up buying another company. I don't know what M$ will do with their new acquisition but it could potentially be bad. I guess no difference that buying a company like Ninja Theory but this is Bethesda! BETHESDA!!

Oh, please, not you too. It's just semantics. It doesn't matter if a company "builds" their own studio, buys partial exclusive rights or buys an established studio. It is all the exact same thing. One company pays another company to artificially deprive a third company of content. It's all shitty. Shitty things done by shitty companies who cannot make their own product appealing enough to stand on its own, so they steal content away from each other.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

They weren't releasing in other places. When they started caring about PC again they were Windows Store exclusive for awhile. If long term they wanted everything to be on their own store/launcher then they would have stuck to that. They didn't however, they gave in and started releasing on Steam too. I don't see why they would have done that if it wasn't part of a permanent shift in their strategy.

Strategies are dependent on circumstances and the times. Micro wasn't doing that hot with the Xbox One either. If things chance (success), strategies can also change/they can take a crazy decision, etc.

Honestly this is awful news. Old established IP's being lapped by by a megacorp is almost never good.

I would be mad and complaining about shitty practices, but I was a fan of Nintendo during the NES era, so I cant really talk.
