For those 2 reasons you have every reason to believe you could play online with your girlfriend. That sucks man.

The toxicity in here is through the roof.

How surprising.

It's the way of the Nintendo fans. No cowardly reporting, but instead a public lynching.

They dont need mature games, they make life mature

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Look, on one hand, I feel for you: Nintendo’s digital refund policy is archaic and awful, and a decade behind just about everyone else (aside from maybe Sony, where it’s more like 5 years).

On the other hand, if you absolutely NEEDED online play, you should have done the research to confirm it. If you visit the game’s online page, it’s made pretty clear that cloud saving is the only online thing the game supports. Googling “New Super Mario Bros online multiplayer” also would’ve done it. If you’re able to post on here, you’re definitely tech literate enough to do that.

I do think its a mistake for you to sell your Switch over this, especially since you clearly enjoy the games Nintendo makes. Simply applying a little more forethought to your future purchases on it is probably all you really need to do.

That said...I’d be lying if I didn’t say this lack of any refund policy didn’t adversely affect how I play and enjoy games on Switch. I agonize over most any purchase because I know once I do it, it’s mine forever. And on a service where demos are also uncommon, that makes it doubly frustrating. So if Nintendo’s content simply isn’t worth that for you, I get it. But I personally just only buy games when I am absolutely sure I’ll be playing them. I’ve found that’s worked out quite well for me so far!

BTW, a solid 2D Mario experience with online play is Mario Maker 2. It’s got a campaign full of Nintendo-made levels, and it’s now possible to play with friends via the online. If you change your mind on selling your Switch, it’s something you should consider.

The attitude of some (= lots of) people here is just horrible. Sure, some more research would have revealed there's no online play, but it also sounds like there was a good reason to expect the game to have online play. Instead there's not, and Nintendo is, as usual, years late with the way they handle their handle online storefront - in this case, return policy. Maybe perhaps if you want to be mean and defend the giant corporation making tons and tons of money, you can blame the poor customer here for not doing research, but there's no defending the way Nintendo handles returns. It's subpar compared to the competition.

I mean I could see why they dont accept refunds if you literally bought the game and installed it. You could just not like it and want to return it, but like it's the same thing for movies tbh.

You should have done some research, there is plenty of games she would like with online. This one doesn't. I mean I feel like your relationship is pressuring you and you just put that on the situation when it's just you who didn't search properly.

Sometimes people say things they don't mean when they're angry. I'm sure OP will buy from Nintendo again when he calms down.

It isn't a company's fault if someone buys their product without fully knowing what's in the product unless that company doesn't provide that information. It's all over the internet. There has never been a 2-D Mario game with online multiplayer. Maybe their next one, but why would you assume one originally released in 2012 would have it?

Mario Maker 2

Uh, that isn't exactly a traditional 2-d mario game.

Where did you write traditional? I fail to see it.

Thanks my dude.

When I protested this through the website I was told that.

1. The "Online compatible" meant cloud saves

2. The "Online compatible" filter was only on the US site (where she is from, and where we browsed the games), whereas I bought the game on their UK site, and their UK site is not affiliated or some BS cop-out like that. Ill try to attach the image

Sad that the posts in here are just blowing off a valid complaint with knee-jerk defense.

What do you expect when the premise of the thread itself is a knee jerk reaction?
