Forums - Gaming - Google signs 5 studios to make exclusive Stadia games, including Supermassive and Harmonix

Any game exclusive to a streaming platform is a game I really don't need to play.

Super Massive just keep fucking up, if they had played their cards right they could have been a top tier studio but they pissed it all away, they are the equivalent of a one hit wonder musician.

I'm not sure what you mean. When did they have the opportunity to become a top tier studio? Until Dawn was moderately successful, but it wasn't a huge success for Sony, and my understanding is that Sony decided not to fund a AAA Until Dawn sequel or spiritual successor, just cheaper VR games. Since Sony wouldn't fund a AAA sequel or spiritual successor, they decided to sign a deal with Namco Bandai to make a series of Until Dawn spiritual successors called the Dark Pictures Anthology. The first one released last year, and while not as successful as Until Dawn, was an ok game and sold fairly well. The 2nd Dark Pictures game releases in October and looks much more interesting than the first, and there are apparently 6 more planned, some of which are already in development. This Stadia game is likely a small side project.

That seems excessive unless they are small episodes.

The first Dark Pictures game, Man of Medan, was about half the length of Until Dawn, but was also priced lower. I think the others are supposed to be about the same length, 4ish hours.

Yes I saw, but you need 5 playthrough plus chapter selects for plat so not to bad.

But seems both critical acclaim isn't good and user review is lousy.

I don't get this mentality. They had Tomb Raider 2013 at full price, with compression artifacts and controller latency. All the pieces were in place.

Not sure why people here are even remotely clamouring for Google of all companies, to pocket "exclusives" for their online, streaming only platform, especially considering just a few short years ago, on how much hate there was for digital games, never mind online only based.

Why would you chant for them to get anything exclusive?, because you don't own it, you're going to have to fork out for the best net connection and you're still diddled harder than consoles/PC's offerings, let alone the fact that we don't suffer the pitfalls Stadia does. Just don't chant, stop saying "get excloosives!11", because it's dumb, just like Google was dumb for bothering with Google+, then abandoning it a few short years later, when they discovered "oh noes, we can't topple Facebook so easily".

It's either Nvidia's GFN, which benefits the customer first for having their library, or go the fuck home, and never come back. I'm actually shocked there's normie stadia fans in existence, that'd even remotely wish for Stadia to thrive (but then again, look at mobile "gaming" normies, which allowed us MT's into our core games, that group will needlessly pollute anything).

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

It's almost like Stadia has a lag problem...

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

Didn't see anyone happy with they poaching these exclusives. What I saw was people acknowledging that they should have done it a lot earlier if they wanted to have people willing to sign.

Those artifacts are an artistic decision, that was part of the Director's Cut.

OT: too little to late? I mean they are trying. The only thing that upsets me is that they seem to be invested in the platform for the next3-4 years at least. This means that when they will eventually shut down, there will be so many wasted software developed for that platform. Hopefully, they will sell those off.

I was reffing to the other thread, the "where the hell are Stadia 1st party?" one. Some folk in there claiming it needs exclusives to sell, and I'm sitting here, seeing Steam, which mostly sells third party games (not all of them are exclusive, and certainly not dirty deals with EGS),based on it's storefront, not it's first party or whatever indie titles or AAA are exclusive to it (for whatever reason).

Stadia has an insane service problem, it's not that the service needs exclusives, it could survive without them. What it needs is better services, better deals on said service, because really when you look at it, Stadia isn't a console or a PC, it's an online networked service plain and simple, it is getting you to pay for something, but that's mostly down to the online service, which is the core reason to even use the thing in the first place.

Also, going by that Orcs must die Stadia trailer, it's mostly positive, and thee's already comments of "can't wait to play it", written down, not "can't wait to play this on my console/PC", which is leading me to believe that the normies are starting to slowly file in the ranks of those core gamers that were at first interested in the service, but basically hate it now. I believe it's what one would call "the hate dying down", though in Stadia's case, that's not a good thing.

Last thing we need are normies piling onto this service and basically pulling a mobile gaming repeat and inflate it's popularity, thus getting everyone to trend chase, instead of pulling a Nintendo and ignoring it for as long as possible (which in this case, would be good for those of us that still want to play physical or downloaded digital).
