The reasons are simple: The game is remarkably well made and well told, and the people who hate it are almost universally being irrational or entitled. There, solved your conundrum! do I get a cookie?

Only a cookie of stupidity if you think that story was well told.

Well, I am a writer. I write for a living. I am a professional in the field and I went to college for TV and Film production with a focus on the writing element of it. So yeah, I think I know what I'm talking about. The story was remarkably well written and presented.

I am what I assume to be 70% through the game and the story is probably the only reason why I'm still playing. Gameplay is fine but its not inspiring me. The characters, script and story telling however are just on another level. I only wish that this second half was moving quicker.

While i thought the scores would be in the high 80s, a score of 84/85 is still dang good. And a bit better than Infamous SS which I disliked.
So seems like a game I will need to get.

Judging by the reviews, the game does exactly what it said it was going to do. A 9/10 if you were sold on a classic samurai open world action game. A fair bit lower if

1. The setting and presentation alone doesn't excite you.
2- You are suffering from open world fatigue and need unique twists to gameplay.

I'm somewhere inbetween. Absolutely exhausted by over inflated games and massively sparse open worlds. But also completely a sucker for polish, delicate presentation and strong atmosphere. Something the recent AC games have lacked despite looking appealing to me on the outset.

Yeah I have a feeling I'm going to love this game. I thoughtfully enjoyed the past Infamous games and this looks like their biggest game yet. In terms of scope, polish and gameplay.

Also been dying for a open world game based in Japan in the feudal era. And been wanting an AC to do that since AC3. This looks even better as it won't be tied to the convoluted story in AC and made by a dev that hasn't let me down. Its a shame I have such a large backlog of games otherwise I'd jump on this on day 1.

Some of you take review aggregates as far too much of an absolute barometer for how much you may personally enjoy a game. Just because gaming journalists - who are not only a group of mostly likeminded individuals, have various conflicts of interests, but also, aren't even particularly good at their jobs, if we're being honest - tell you X is better than Y, doesn't objectively make it so.

Just because Ghost of Tsushima didn't get that 90+ average you may have been hoping for, doesn't mean it's necessarily any less amazing than TLOU2. It's not even remotely difficult to imagine that a great many people would have a vastly better time playing Ghost of Tsushima than TLOU2. Their 10 point meta differential doesn't make one "good," and other "amazing." Do yourselves a favor, and learn to contextualize the actual meat of the reviews you read with your own interests, and biases. Ignore the arbitrary number value the writer assigns the game. Beyond weeding out something truly terrible, these scores are generally not that helpful. If you can learn to decouple yourself from this shallow snap judgement of content, I guarantee that you'll ultimately be happier for it.

83 on Meta so far... my conservative position was gonna be a 86 but i decided to dream with a 90, seems like even my moderate estimate was off the mark.

That being said Infamous second son got like an 80 and i enjoyed it, and i don't really let review scores completely dictate my purchasing decisions so im still fully on board.

Just gonna leave this here from one of my favorite reviewers.

Did you watch the laymen review? I tend to likem better in the group cuz their opinion tends to varie and its more casual. They had thickboy back for this one.
