Switch to PS4 ratio at 13:1.

It's almost scary to see one system hold such a monopoly, thank god it's closer in the rest of the world to keep 'em honest. XD

Yea true, a monopoly is never amazing to have, hopefully Nintendo doesn't get lazy in japan or even WW if the next gen gets a disappointing start.

Already answered but yeah this week number will be huge due to last week of the quarter.

Anyone have numbers to compare Switch's 6 months this year to the best ones from DS/3DS?

DS had quarter 2 alone sold over 2.5mil I think twice lol. But let’s do 3DS

first 2 Quarters (Fam)

2667k NSW-2020 (with massive shortages)

2285k 3DS-2012

1957k 3DS-2013

1485k NSW-2019

DS was a monster but these numbers help support the notion that Switch will outsell 3DS in Japan

I don’t think Nintendo will get too complacent simply because they've had some insane lows sprinkled in between their successes. The Wii U probably still stings them. Sony is the one that worries me when it comes to complacency.

Top 30

NSW - 25
PS4 - 5

Breakdown is

NSW 25 - 10 third party
PS4 5 - 3 third party

This week NSW has 77% of third party games in the top 30.  Last week they had 80%.  People have been telling me for years that Playstation wll get most of the Japanese third parties, but I'm just not seeing it.  In Japan it makes the most business sense for a third party dev to put their game on the Switch.  It has the largest install base and it's growing faster than Nintendo can keep up with.

Third party domination is Switch's final trick.  One day, years from now, they will throttle Switch first party development to prepare for their next system.  What games will fill in the gaps in the top 30 when that happens?  Switch third party games.  When a system is successful, third party devs keep making games for it for a few years even when first party development has moved on.

I'm not sure if monopoly issues really apply to gaming.  My three favorite systems are the NES, Switch and PS2 in that order.  NES and PS2 were the two most dominant systems ever made and both had a huge library of great games.

Also, it seemed like Sony had a monopoly during the PS1/PS2 era, but then the PS3 came along and showed that they were actually vulnerable and can't abuse monopoly-like power.  If long term monopolies were possible in gaming, I'd probably agree with what you are saying.  But I think market domination really only lasts for a generation or so and that prevents these console makers from becoming too arrogant.

So considering it's charting this week (#29) and shows 486k total sales there, I'd say it's safe o assume that at least half of the copies were digital ones.
