This is beyond a black thing; we are getting to point where color does not matter. Everybody is sick of this shit.

English is not my main language so excuse my bad grammar.

I don’t know if its my place – or anyone’s place – to judge how people protest or to say how they should protest.  Controlled and measured civil outrage doesn’t sound like something that would bring about the change people want to see in society or to put a light over an ongoing issue. Not saying the opposite does, just that I don’t feel  its my place to judge it. I understand the conversation about "what if it was your community or your family's business", and while yes, thats a scary thought, its also a distraction from the main problem, which to me is -or should be- about the lack of police accountability. The lack of proper measures/protocols from the people charged with keeping peace. Their inability to defuse or control a situation that shouldn’t have gotten out of hand to begin with. The racist undertones of many of their actions. This keeps happening over and over again. This happened  because of George Floyd, yes, but its also because of Michael Brown, and everyone in between. Has there been any significant change in police behavior between those incidents? To say “its just some bad apples” doesn’t quite sound right when said bad apples cost people’s lives. We should be keeping these people to a higher standard because their job demands it.

I personally don't agree with rioting or looting, but the people pearl-clutching (both pundits and politicians) are massive hypocrites. They're more than fine or dismissive with war crimes, imperialism, and bailouts for the rich and mega-rich. But the second people riot and loot (especially people of color) they lose their minds.
So I voted Other in the poll. If the United States was a nation that actually honored rule of law domestically and internationally, I'd firmly vote that the riots are fully wrong.

I think there is a much more important conversation to have about the role of black protest. We constantly hear "No, you can't protest that way" and then we don't see change. Kneeling during the national anthem is just about the tamest way possible to protest, but nah, it's still too much. I don't believe that rioting is is a positive way to express the anger you are feeling, but at the same time, we need to look at the conditions that lead to this sort of behavior. This is a result of systemic oppression.

To quote Martin Luther King Jr:

…I think America must see that riots do not develop out of thin air. Certain conditions continue to exist in our society which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots. But in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality, and humanity. And so in a real sense our nation’s summers of riots are caused by our nation’s winters of delay. And as long as America postpones justice, we stand in the position of having these recurrences of violence and riots over and over again. Social justice and progress are the absolute guarantors of riot prevention.

I find the whole thing disgusting. The death of George Floyd and the reaction by the media and the public.

I'm a black male and a former cop.

The whole situation leading up to Floyd's death turned my stomach. That officer was 100% wrong and that knee to the spine goes against any training I have ever had. Especially when the subject was already handcuffed and not combative. AND the officer had backup.

The rioting after was just as bad. I've seen several videos of horrific acts. Some opportunists taking advantage of a bad situation. They never gave the justice system a chance to work. Now Minneapolis is burning.

And the media taking the side of the rioters really has be worried about the future of this country. This isn't "a revolution". People aren't fighting for their rights. They're reveling in their bloodlust.

Those are my brief, simple thoughts. I could write a book on this one.

I'm going to take the Gandhi stance here. Protesting is certainly justified here, rioting not so much.

Crazy times, The looting got within a mile of my house two nights ago. A lot of us were out cleaning up the community during the day yesterday and as we were cleaning up and boarding up windows looters would stop by and steal liquor, clothes, and tvs. Nothing you could do about it just work on cleaning up the area.
