Looking at the top selling games in Japan it looks like there is a very real chance New Horizons could challenge for the #1 spot.

#2 seems to be a safe bet, with only Pokemon R/G/B presenting a difficult reach.

Only when you combine all that together. Pokémon RG sold roughly 8.2mil and ACNH will surpass that.

by end of June the game should be either 2nd or 3rd highest lifetime (ship+digital)

Why not count blue?

Game released 4 years later as a better version. Almost like a third version we are use to. It’s almost as guilty as combining Mario kart 8 sales with Mario kart 8 deluxe

Came out the same year.  You had to mail away for it, but still.

And if you're arguing it's too different to count, then are you saying we can't count US and Japan sales together for Worldwide sales?   Cause the US versions were both based on Blue.

SWITCH PRO SPECULATION

Still thinking we will see a Switch Pro this year and expecting a $50 price drop for the Base and Lite units.

It will be a bundle that will include a Peripheral computing device focused on living room gaming in front of the TV. Nintendo games will still be released on the entire ecosystem but there would be exclusive 3rd party content on the new device. GTA V and other similar games will not be compatable with older Switches without a Peripheral device being present.

Switch Pro will receive a lot of ports from 3rd party games from the older gen.

This will be mainly used to extend the lifecycle of the Switch until Switch 2 is announced for 2022 or 2023.

Don't think that is likely. Don't see Nintendo splitting the userbase up with some peripheral. If anything, Switch Pro will probably just be a premium version of the original Switch: better screen, slighly better specs to run games a little smoother, longer battery, more storage space, bluetooth, ya know stuff like that. That seems infinitely more likely than Nintendo trying to divide up the user base in order to get a few more ports.

Also, some more powerful version of Switch isn't needed to extend Switch's life cycle, especially if you are just talking about 2022/2023. 2022 is only two years away and Switch is in its prime, to say it needs something to get it to 2022 is ridiculous. It's currently selling better than any system in the past decade, its not gonna suddenly be limping along in desperate need of replacement in two years haha. Switch Pro, just like any other revision to Nintendo portables, will be to keep that higher price in the market for people who will pay a premium for the best version of something, and also to get some rebuys from some who already own it but buy all versions cuz they're super fans or just wouldn't mind updating to a slightly better version after a few years.

All the Switch needs to keep selling for the next three years is games.
There is no need for Pro model. Graphics and performance have never been a selling point for the Switch.

Yep, Animal Crossing and MK8D are clear indicators of that. Top selling games, but the graphics and performance aren't important.

Looking at it strictly from a performance standpoint isn't the full story.  Psychologically, people like new things.  We see this with cell phones where people get an upgraded model that they don't really need, but it works with gamers too.  After all, I bought a New 3DS which I really didn't need all that badly...  There's also a big signal boost that comes with releasing a new model.  All the websites and such start talking about it, as will the more avid fans on social media.  Releasing a new model comes with at least a few million dollars of free marketing for Nintendo.

Just personally I'm feeling that "I want a shiny new toy" itch, that makes me want to buy a Series X even though I know I'm probably not going to use it all that much.  If Nintendo released a pro model though, I might scratch the itch that way.

You don't need a Switch Pro for that though, there are all kinds of revisions they could do.

I think nintendo's current focus is to bring it's gaming intellectual property into new forms, such as theme parks, movies, mobile games, and toys. The switch is selling well and doesn't need a new model. It needs more games.

Sure. I thought you were using Switch Pro as a generic term for some sort of upgraded Switch.  Boosting the power is what seems most likely, but I guess they could do something else.
