Forums - Nintendo - What will be Nintendo's big 2020 holiday game(s)?

That's a good question. They will have a few games but everything seemed to get screwed up this year. It's Mario anniversary right? They will have to crank out remaster or something like that. They need a couple new games such as a sequel or new IP.

I'm actually kind of looking forward to Clubhouse games since I'm into chess and board games. I know there aren't too many here pumped for it but I am.

Also I just got Switch like 2 months ago so I have plenty of games to play right now. I feel for dedicated Switch owners that got it a long time ago though.

I think now would be good time for Nintendo to pair up with more third party companies and lend them their neglected IPs. Sega should be allowed another F-Zero. There are plenty of third party companies that would partner with Nintendo and Nintendo could make sure quality is there. Heck look at Mario+Rabbids sales. No one expected that much in sales when first announced.

I'm super keen for Clubhouse Games! The only thing that disappointed me around its announcement that it wasn't shadow dropped the day of the direct. I love card games, board games and hanafuda, so a way to do all of those on the go is very tempting. The online looks great too.

Yea into lot of board games but when I saw it had hold em I was sold.  The bowling and tank game might be hits for me.  Few others might be decent like the darts, pool, and table sports games.  I see enough value to throw down 40.

They didn't have a holiday release last year, what makes you think they will have one this year. The next nintendo first party game very likely won't be released until 2021.

Releasing Pokémon in November counts as a holiday release.
it’s very silly to think that Nintendo will have absolutely 0 first party releases after this point( I guess we are ignoring xenoblade and club house games).

I don't think there will be nothing.  But I do think that it will be a lost year.  Basically, I think that half of the Summer schedule will be pushed into Fall and that'll be it outside of maybe an easy port or two.  I also don't think that Nintendo had a particularly impressive Summer to begin with.

I think we'll look back and say that June-August 2019 was more impressive than June-December 2020.

It's still a wait-and-see for what entails for the rest of the year. This year is unlike any other with the virus affecting workplaces and businesses.

It's gonna be hard considering that software releases will be an issue for all companies in the industry, which was even admitted by Microsoft's Phil Spencer saying that COVID-19 could delay some of the launch titles for XB Series X. Sony is planning for a limited launch for the first year for the PS5. Who knows when the Xbox Series X will release this year and if it will be a limited launch as well.

I am not sure of the economic status for the rest of the world, but for the US, it will take some time before the economy starts to fully recover. So buying a $500 console + $60 games + subscriptions will be a challenge for the more casual audience.

Maybe Breath of the Wild 2 or the rumored new Paper Mario game in the vein of TTYD Maybe Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 Remaster and Super Mario 3D World Remaster to celebrate the Mario anniversary.

They'll resell Super Mario 3D World (and other mario remasters), but SM3DW will essentially act as a brand new game for the vast majority of Switch owners and it looks like a modern release & has it multiplayer.

They don't need any massive system sellers this Christmas, they already have like 5 which will make it a must have.

Also note how Sony stopped targeting big release for Q4, they just run off the momentum of the annual Fifa, COD & Assassins Creed. Nintendo can do the same with its established evergreen titles.

Yeah, I could see them MAYBE bundling Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Galaxy 1&2 in one $60 package. Hopefully as remasters, of course. But there's no way they would then add Super Mario 3D World to that same bundle. They know they can sell it separately as a Wii U port for $60 and sell millions because it's Mario.

Honestly, I'm actually surprised we haven't gotten a port yet of 3D World, as that is really the only Wii U heavy-hitter left.

I really do think COVID-19 has delayed multiple Nintendo first-party titles by a full quarter or two. Nintendo delays aren't uncommon to begin with, and their lineup has surely been affected.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Pokemon is GameFreak.

It seems likely that there won't be a Nintendo direct this summer. This means that the earliest a new game could potentially be announced would be in a Fall direct.
