Forums - Nintendo - Mario + Rabbids sequel (or spiritual successor like Zelda+Rabbids) on Switch?

I really loved Mario + Rabbids and would like to see a sequel.  I would not want to see Zelda + Rabbids though.

There is a reason why Mario + Rabbids works.  Both franchises are whimsical.  The Mushroom Kingdom is a whimsical dream-like place.  The Mario franchise has always been whimsical, but they aren't mischievous.  The Rabbids are both whimsical and mischievous.  So the Rabbids are the comedy and the Mario people are the "straight man" types, but it all fits, because it's all whimsical to begin with.

So there are other franchises, like Kirby or Donkey Kong or Splatoon, that would work just fine with Rabbids.  Even Animal Crossing would work fine with Rabbids.  Then there are other franchises like Metroid or Fire Emblem or Bayonetta, that wouldn't really work as well.  I would put Zelda in this category.  I know there are cartoonier Zelda games, but there are reasons why people complain when they make those.  Most Zelda fans want Link to be a badass in a dangerous world instead of in a zany cartoon.  I personally wouldn't want a Zelda + Rabbids crossover.

I don't see how it couldn't work tbh.. the Mario characters weren't the one to bring the comedic elements but the rabbids. Also, it doesn't need to be cartoon link but still your argument doesn't stand since Wind Waker is one of the most appreciated Zelda game ever even tho it's not a badass link. If something like Link's awakening doesn't get too much backlash, i'm sure a spinoff would be appreciated no matter the style they pick.

Wind Waker sucks.  It's not just me saying this either.  It was a divisive game since it was first released.  Some Zelda fans love it.  Some hate it.  Zelda fans want Link to be a badass, and that is why Wind Waker was so divisive.

So, while they could make a Zelda + Rabbids game with Toon Link, it's not going to be terribly successful.  Too many Zelda fans would hate it.  What would work a lot better is a franchise that is already cartoony like Kirby or Splatoon.  But Zelda fans want Link to be a badass, and the Zelda series isn't consistent in delivering that.  Zelda + Rabbids would seriously be a bad move.

I would totally be down for that. I love Rabbids. I loved them when everybody else thought they were annoying lol. Mario + Rabbids is one of my favourite games and I would be down for any continuation, whether it be Mario, DK, or Zelda.

I feel that the "Toon" Zelda artstyle would work best with Rabbids.

They are still annoying, and I really don't think a notable amount of people actually cares about them anymore. Mario + Rabbids sold because it was a good game with Mario characters and no other reason. I can't exactly prove that, but I don't think it's far fetched at all.

I think a crossover with Splatoon and/or Arms would work very well for the Rabbids.

Wow. Just, no.

Wind Waker was indeed divisive when it came out because people wanted a realistic Zelda with the more more powerful Gamecube, not cel shading. Then as years passed and people stopped caring about Wind Waker not being "dark" or "realistic" looking since graphics kept improving anyways so it no longer mattered, gradually Wind Waker became beloved by zelda fans. Lots of people love toon link. Lots of people love Wind Waker and Wind Waker's graphics. You are definitely in the minority if you think Wind Waker and the artistic style suck. Wind Waker >>> Twilight Princess any day.

If you really think a Zelda tactics game would fail because of Toon Link...I don't even know what to say because you don't live on this planet. I guess you must be really upset how a cartoony remake of a gameboy game selling at full $60 price sold 4 million copies in just over 3 months last year. Man you must be real angry about that Zelda!

Oh yeah 100% people paid attention to Mario + Rabbids because it had Mario in it. I have never played a rabbids game, know nothing about them, and if it had been just a Rabbids tactics game I probably wouldn't have gotten it. Hell I even got Mario + Rabbids on a spur of the moment whim when I saw it was half off like a year after it came out. But what first got me thinking I might get the game one day was the first time I saw it in motion and it looked pretty damn amazing in motion. Sure Mario got people looking at it and talking about it because it was an odd smash up of the two franchises in a totally different genre, but any other big Nintendo franchise would do the same. Zelda + Rabbids, Splatoon + Rabbids would work very well. Well only thing I don't know about Zelda is jumping isn't a big thing in that franchise while it was obviously a big part of the gameplay in Mario + Rabbids so I dunno but I'm sure they could figure out something else to do.

And the Rabbids make it whacky. They add whackiness and character to the game, plus you get more characters by combining Nintendo characters with Rabbids. Definitely positives. Given the precedent set now by the first game I'd much much rather have the same team at Ubisoft make a Zelda (or to a lesser extent Splatoon) + rabbids game rather than have another team try to copy the success with a Nintendo only cast.

Funny how you say the rabbids added characters to the game when most of the few named rabbids were just clones of Mario characters, of whom already have clones (Mario-Wario, Peach-Daisy, etc.). Don't think much would be lost by replacing the rabbids with Bowser's minions, he was ultimately the boss of the game anway. I guess we lose toilet humor and obnoxious screaming, but I can personally live without that.

Fact remains it was made by ubisoft and is a mario and rabbids smash up. So I don't see why you are even talking about a Mario only tactics game. If another game is coming it will be a nintendo + rabbids game not a nintendo game. Sure that's great you would rather not have the rabbids in a sequel but that's not an option if there is a sequel so it's pointless to discuss it.

That fact has nothing to do anything, certainly doesn't make the rabbids less replacable, and Ubisoft can make a game with purely Nintendo characters if they want to and Nintendo allows it. You say you don't see why I'd be talking about a Mario only tactics game, then immediately acknowledge that I don't like the rabbids, so that was a pointless combination of words you typed there. Also I never said anything about a M+R sequel. I've only been questioning the worth of the rabbids, though yes I'd certainly prefer not to see another rabbids crossover or rabbids game period, but I'd be fine with Ubisoft taking another crack at a Nintendo IP.
