Ah I see the pre spin emerging. Can’t deny the Series X design is a big departure from traditional console boxes and angular flat rectangles.

Plus it speaks to MSs clear PC roots with the tower look. But to top it off they are first and revealed in December. If Sony unveils the same design...might as well say their entire RnD department just looks to MS for inspiration. It wouldn’t be original and it would scream imitative rather then innovative.

As credible as sony reacting to MS reveal, even when show evidence that Sony reveal was know by news people for like over a week and the video was recorded even earlier to be shown on GDC.

Sony completely redesigned their console to look like XSX because the internet loved the look of it right? Shall put together with the rumour of PS5 overheating and thus they aren't showing the console. Not to forget it is overheating because of arrogance kkkk, that was a great rumour and even had one site putting their credibility to say the insider was thrustyworthy.

it is overheating thats why they are only having so few because they had to start over

This isn’t a spec reveal, this is a console reveal. Nobody going to remember the spec reveal years from now. But everybody will certainly remember the consoles if they happen to share the same design. Especially given how the design is in itself a departure from tradition. And this isn’t something that insiders knew about for a week...this is 4 months and counting.

Cmon, let’s be real. Wouldn’t you want the PS5 to have a unique design?

Edit: Xbox gamers loved it for sure but it’s not about liking it...it’s about practicality. That it is by far the most effective way to vent heat then a flat box. The Sony rumor that they are finding this out the hard way, even I’m skeptical. But the more time goes by the more I’m curious.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Don't really see the point of buying at launch.

Most games are going to be cross-gen for a long while and the PS5 specs aren't even that great (10 TF is nothing special).

Waiting outside and lining up and doing all that other stupid stuff is just a waste of time. Better off waiting until 2021 or the first price drop for either PS5 or XSX.

In theory, if the internals were agreed upon a long time ago and just had to reshape the dimensions of the outer plastic box encasing it....how much time could that possibly take? I wouldn’t say it would take years.

For any technical minded gamers who read this feel free to jump in. I’m legit curious to know how a theoretical outer box redesign would take from conception to factory changes necessary.

enough time to be behind on schedule and have supply constraints

So you agree that it wasn't a response to MS and changed your opinion from that thread?

Do you remember that couple weeks ago the rumor was that Xbox didn't had a defined box and no devkit were available so games release would take a big impact?

None of these rumours are credible, and besides I doubting Sony will use the same design even if they were to use it wouldn't be because they decided to copy MS since they have been developing the system for 5 years and won't change the whole design (how to fit the parts inside even more than the shell) and philosophy/assembly in couple months to make it look like Xbox.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

At least we're finally getting that PS4 price cut!

Most folks know what to do to work around premium price that comes with the launch of a new console.
I traded in my og PS4 at GS to get my Pro down to $250 after taxes. Hopefully the Pro keeps its value, with some luck i walk out of GS with a PS5 for under $350.

Potentially over 2 million less units? If true that would be an absolutely huge blow to their momentum, and a massive win for Microsoft. Plenty of customers will pick up an Xbox if a PS5 is simply not available, to jump in to the next gen. Even with the higher price point, as long as there aren't any technical issues or PR disasters, the early adopters will likely clear out that inventory very quickly. So we could be looking at serious shortages. I'm going to have to preorder from multiple sources, I wanted 3 at launch.

Do you really believe that Sony is the only one affected by the Coronavirus?

Both game consoles  are assembled in China.

I'm not saying there won't be shortages for MS as well, but the longer there are alternatives on shelves, it only serves to benefit the competition.

No I’m not changing my stance. Kirby007s comment to me makes this all one juicy conspiracy theory. The overheating rumours, the lack of shipments at launch, the scrambling after seeing the practicality of the tower design for venting heat. Because I don’t think a outer redesign wouldn’t be TOO much work if the specs are the same. The Xbox rumor you mentioned (it was last year before the reveal) I’m chalking it up to them preserving their big reveal.

I am entitled to this because Sony isn’t being transparent and these rumours are all we have. You gotta admit MS has been focused and transparent while Sony being all too coy with their fans.

Granted I concede they are master of their craft in software, so there’s no real need to get defensive, because it’s just hardware rumours. That said I’ll ask you again: don’t you want Sony to make a truly unique design for PS5?
