Forums - Sales Discussion - VGChartz Software Shipments Discussion Thread

Welcome to the VGC Software Shipments Discussion Thread.

This is a place to talk about recent shipment updates that get added to our system.
I will list the updates I make here and try to give additional insight into the numbers I have.

Also If someone knows definite shipment numbers and has a source for them feel free to post them here so that we can add them to the system.

There is only one condition currently. We are not able to do multiplat numbers until we get information about the platform split.
So we DO know how much GTA V(and other games) has sold combined but without a reliable breakdown into single platforms the number is not much of use.

So let's start:

Added on 14.01.2020:

All data is from the 2019 CESA Games White Paper, which is a yearly book where certain Japanese publishers submit their numbers of games that have sold above 1M. I am not completely done with that list so expect more numbers out of that one.

Also look forward to the 31st of January where Nintendo reveals another round of sales numbers.
Switch updates are for certain, maybe some updates to 3DS and MK Wii.

Yes, if you're aware of any shipment announcements for individual titles that aren't in the database already please do let us know by posting in this thread. Either Marth or I will then add the data to the database.

As Marth said, any data needs to be for individual titles and, in the case of multiplats, the platform split needs to be known before we can add it in unfortunately. A source must also be provided, but it need not necessarily be the primary source (so a news article quoting a press release is fine, for example).

Updates 15.01.2020:

Final Fantasy XII - The Zodiac Age (PS4)
Monster Strike (3DS)
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (PS4)

sold less than 10k units in 2018

Soul Calibur V (PS3) 1.02M
I double checked this title was not included in last years book. It released in 2012 so its very unlikely that it sold 30k in 2018.
Seems like Namco forgot to report on it.

Dragonball Xenoverse (PS3) - 1.04M
Same here, seems like Namco had some updates to share this year. VGC only had it at 0.5M so great to have that update.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam (3DS) - 1.05M
Sold 40k in 2018

Dragonball Xenoverse 2 (XBO) - 1.07M
Another Xenoverse /Bamco update. And a confirmed Millionseller for XBO. VGC had it at 0.47M

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (WiiU) - 1.12M
+10k in 2018

Miitopia (3DS) - 1.15M
increase of 120k in 2018 that is quite some legs.

LEGO City Undercover (WiiU) - 1.15M
+10k in 2018

Tekken 6 (PSP) - 1.16M
+10k in 2018

Dark Souls III (XBO) - 1.24M
increased by 230k in 2018. From barely millionseller to comfortably over it.

Pikmin 3 (WiiU) - 1.26M
+10k in 2018

Dark Souls (360) - 1.26M

This somehow managed to ad 10k to its total :D

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (PS4) - 1.30M

Solid growth of 300k in its second year.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (3DS) - 1.33M

Got 100k more. Even though it is still one of the worst selling Zelda titles.

Kid Icarus: Uprising (3DS) - 1.34M

Another +10k title

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (WiiU) - 1.36M

And one more in the 10k club.

Thank you @Marth and @Machina for staying on top of the the shipment figures. I know how much time it takes to stay as up to date as possible. Next step is figuring out what to do with multiplat games.

Style Savvy: Trendsetters (3DS) - 1.43M

With 0.75M on VGC estimates this game was quite a bit off.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (PS3) - 1.45M

This somehow sold another 30k in the last year. Or maybe it just got another numbers update from Bamco

Yoshi's Wooly World (WiiU) - 1.56M

+10k in 2018

Mario Tennis Open (3DS) - 1.56M

+40k in 2018 but the Wii game is far ahead so no chance to catch up.

Kirby: Planet Robobot (3DS) - 1.57M

+60k in 2018 but it won't catch NES Kirby at 1.75M

Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS) - 1.63M

+30k in 2018. Sold better than Gates of Infinity but still very far off the Red/Blue and Time/Darkness games.
Gonna be interesting to see where the Switch game will end up.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - 1.67M

added another 60k to its total in 2018. Now less than 100k behind Minish Cap but I don't believe it will reach it. Switch is selling all the Zeldas now.
Also this title, for some reason, has two entries in my book.

over 1m for Style Savvy 2? Given the niche of it I'm actually surprised and pretty happy.

Tekken 6 (360) - 1.7M

+20k in 2018 but atm I am certain that Bamco does not update their numbers every year.

Wii Party U (WiiU) - 1.78M

+20k. Wii U is still pushing some software.

Kingdom Hearts - HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX (PS4) - 1.8M

Now here is a juicy update. +700k in 2018, so in the games 2nd year.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (PS4) - 1.96M

Another big one. Grown by 220k in 2018. 2 million should be certain.

And this concludes the CESA white paper for 2018.
Next edition of this book will probably be out in August of 2020.
Maybe I can find something in the Japanese section but don't count on it.

Next numbers to look forward to are Nintendos quarterly report which happens on January 31st.
If I find anything in the meantime ofc this thread will be bumped.

Also a short clarification post in case someone wonders about that:

There are some games combined for whatever reason:

Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal together sold 76M copies.

Final Fantasy XIII sold 6.9M on PS3 and 360

Final Fantasy XV sold 6.8M on PS4 and XBO

Final Fantasya XIII-3 sold 3.3M on PS3 and 360

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age sold 3M on 3DS and PS4

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII sold 1.4M on PS3 and 360

Sadly Square Enix do not state a platform split for those, which I find severely disappointing.

that's a good idea, let's tag this.
