New numbers for Nintendo are out

Here are the updates to the top 10 3DS games:

Tomodchi Life - 6.55M

Incresed by 40k

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - 8.7M

Increased by 130k

Super Smash Bros for 3DS - 9.57M

Increased by only 30k. 10M seems impossible

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 12.45M

+90k. Legs seem to be slowing down and most people are waiting for the Switch game

Super Mario 3D Land - 12.67M

+70k

New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 13.32M

+50k

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire - 14.26M

+30k

Pokemon Sun and Moon - 16.18M

Increased by only 10k.

Pokemon X and Y - 16.44M

+20k and so it is increasing its lead over Sun/Moon despite being older

And the king of 3DS software:

Mario Kart 7 - 18.68M

sold another 210k in the quarter which is just insane and basically carrying the top10.

Switch will be up next!

Around the Network

And now for the big ones:

Switch software top 10

Luigis Mansion 3 - 5.37M

Our newcomer to the list and pushed Mario Maker 2 out of the top 10.
Soll all of that in it's first quarter and continues to chart well in January.

New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe - 5.85M

+1.26M. That port was definetly worth the investment.

Super Mario Party - 9.12M

+1.53M. Another safe 10M seller with very strong legs despite getting no updates.

Splatoon 2 - 9.81M

+530k. The 10M are very close but sales have also slowed down.

Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu and Eeevee - 11.76M

+480k. Having a new Pokemon game on the console hurts the legs of the previous games as is tradition with Pokemon

Pokemon Sword and Shield - 16M

speaking of Pokemon. This one sold 16M in its first quarter and should have some legs because of DLC and updates

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 16.34M

The bestselling Zelda is further building on its lead with another +1.8M units this quarter. And it has a shot at overtaking the mainline mario game which came out the same year

Super Mario Odyssey - 16.59M

but even then SMO also sold over 1M this quarter. 1.21M to be prescise. So those two will battle for a bit longer

Super Smash Bros Ultimate - 17.68M

is building its lead over both Zelda and Mario with almost 2M this quarter. +1.97M

And now for the undisputed king of Switch software, at least for this FY

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 22.96M

The first Switch game to break the 20M barrier. And MK8D just casually jumped over it, selling another 3.95M this quarter.
Absolutely crazy performance.

Next up will be other Switch games that get mentioned in the presentation material.

Quick correction:

Pokemon Sword and Shield sold 16.06M. I missed those 60k the first time but now they are updated.

Now lets add some Millionsellers to the Switch

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order - 1.02M

Managed to cross the million over the holidays. Released in July

Astral Chain - 1.03M

Released later (August) and sold even a bit more. Fans will be happy that it crossed the 1M

Ring Fit Adventure - 2.17M

This on the other hand has remarkable sales numbers. Expectations were low but the game keeps on selling and 2M in 2 months is pretty good.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses - 2.58M

Sales for FE have slowed down a lot. +290k in the last quarter.
3M should be possible with more DLC and Smash promotion.

Super Mario Maker 2 - 5.04M

Out of the top 10 but not yet out of sales. Added 1.11M to its total.

This should be everything for now unless I can find more info.

Whoops. Forgot about

The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening - 4.19M

+1.06M

Now that the numbers are there time for some comparisons:

Mario Kart Series:

1. Mario Kart Wii - 37.24M
2. Mario Kart DS - 23.60M
3. Mario Kart 8 Delxue - 22.96M
4. Mario Kart 7 - 18.68M

MK8D is now in the league of the big 3, leaving all other games far behind.
If you add the original MK8 (WiiU) total then MK8 sits at 31.4M (22.96M + 8.44M)
So 6 millions to go to beat the Wii game. Soloing the Wii game is probably impossible.
Beating the DS game is only a matter of time. Probably happens in this current quarter (Q4/2019)

Smash Ultimate does not even need a comparison. It already sold Smash WiiU + 3DS combined and is currently just increasing its lead.

Super Mario Series:

3. New Super Mario Bros Wii - 30.28M
4. Super Mario World - 20.61M
5. Super Mario Land - 18.14M
6. Super Mario Bros. 3 - 17.28M
7. Super Mario Odyssey - 16.59M
8. New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 13.32M

The 3D games are no challenge for Odysseys sales. So comparing them against the whole Super Mario lineup it is currently at 7th and still has room to climb.
Hitting 20M and beating SMWorld is possible but NSMBWii will not be reached. But that makes it by far the best selling 3D Mario.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also has absolutely no competition in its franchise. (16.34M vs 7.6M of 2nd place OoT) Only an amazing sequel could come close.

Pokemon Series:

1. Red/Green/Blue - 31.38M
2. Gold/Silver - 23.1M
3. Diamond/Pearl - 17.67M
4. X/Y - 16.44M
5. Ruby/Sapphire - 16.22M
6. Sun/Moon - 16.18M
7. Sword/Shield - 16.06M
8. Black/White - 15.64

Sword/Shield has a shot at becoming the 3rd bestselling Pokemon game in the franchise. Gen1/2 are almost untouchable but everything else is beatable. Having DLC expansion packs is also a first which could work wonders for the games legs and maybe carry it even further.

11. HeartGold/Soulsilver - 12.72M
12. FireRed/LeafGreen - 12.00M
13. Pikachu/Eevee - 11.76M
14. UltraSun/UltraMoon - 8.7M

Lets'Go has almost no legs at this point but it only needs one more Million to beat two games of the franchise. But the distance to UltraSunMoon is already big.

MK8D alone beating the Wii game is far from impossible. Its shipments for calendar year 2018 are 7.69m. For calendar year 2019 they are 7.94m. It's not slowing down and keeps selling at a steady rate along with Switch hardware. 30m LTD by the end of 2020 is likely and the only thing that could prevent that is the release of Mario Kart 9 this year.

If we assume that MK9 does not release on Switch at all, then MK8D will pass MK Wii sometime during 2022. Or if all stars align, then by the end of 2021 already.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

A Biased Review Reloaded / Open Your Eyes / Switch Gamers Club

Gotta get this thread out of retirement because updates are coming.
Last updates from me have been from the last Nintendo quarterly shipments and a few Sony announcements in betweeen.

Now I have some small incremental updates that I will go through in the next few days.

Talk abut being in it for the long run.

5 years after its first release Rythm Heaven Megamix (3DS) manages 1M

Star Fox 64 3D (3DS) which released in 2011 but now is listed at 1.05M

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (3DS)

The big ones:

Major increases:

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (NSW) - 1.44M (+260k from 3.2019 to 12.2019, has now outsold the WiiU original)

Wii Party U (WiiU) - 1.78M
Monster Hunter XX (3DS) - 1.80M
