The games aren't Assassins Creed anymore. |
Maybe it is not an "old" AC game anymore, but that's exactly what make it one of my favorite game now :)
I never liked the old AC games (before Origins) and then with the path they went with Origins (in term of gameplay, open world, combat, stats optimization), this is now what I love about the games.
I think "not being AC" anymore is up to the player. I can understand that for some fans it is not like the first ones (and definitely I would 100% agree with that). But for me, the changes are more than welcome and make it "my" kind of AC games. Looking at the trailer and gameplay from today, this is definitely another improvement of an already amazing game (Odyssey) and as I played AC at the hardest difficulty, stealth is 100% there and you can even build up your gear to support that. I have no idea why some people are saying that AC is not a stealth game... It is 100% up to the player.
I prefer older Assassins creed. They were all connected to a bloodline, games werent super long, and pacing was great.
I played Odyssey awhile back and i really liked the first few hours but after that the RPG stuff became a little too much, pacing was slow and boring, the game world was beautiful but there wasn't a lot of mission variety that took advantage of ot.
Bugs aside Unity was my favorite Assassins Creed game.
Disappointed with the lack of Splinter Cell news.
My main problem with recent AC games is that they are 10X the size of what they need to be. Instead of improving the main story and side quests quality and utilise the power of the console to push the graphics, they go with copy paste and fillers. One of the few games I feel exhausted playing.
They are lost on what the games actually is. Is it an open world RPG where they focus on character development and quest structure or is it an action adventure game where we focus on the gameplay and write the story in a different way. They are trying to please everyone by following every trend in gaming.
You like our AC games? You HAVE IT.
You want big open world game? YOU HAVE IT.
You want RPG elements? YOU HAVE IT.
You want ships Nd see navigation? YOU HAVE IT.
wait for cars or cyperpunk elements in the next AC game.

Out of everything they showed, the only exclusives I will probably play are Horizon 2 and Kena, maybe Returnal but I doubt it. Ghostwire Tokyo is timed, so I will wait and play it on Xbox. I liked the first Spider-Man game, but not planning to play Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Peter Parker is Spider-Man to me, not very interested in playing as Miles. Plus they are refusing to release it on PS4 even though it is using the same engine and assets as the first game and could easily run on PS4 as a result. Athia looked very disappointing to me; looks western instead of Japanese, if I'm going to play a Japanese game I want it to look like a Japanese game. Ratchet & Clank looked pretty good, but I feel like I'm too late to play it, don't have time to go back and play the others. |
Athia is pretty much a Western game assembled by the Japanese. The strange thing is the polar opposite rarely if ever seems to actually happen or it's with low budget indies.
A TES with FF aesthetics and a Bayonetta-esque combat system but customizations and a world along the lines of Skyrim would probably destroy all kinds of records.

As usual, I come with overly optimistic bingos... As for the *... insert your flavor of studio here: hoping it's either ASW, Tamsoft, 2K, Crytek, Valhalla or Mystwalker. Super far shots include CDP, Bethesda (lol) and Team Ninja. In "no way in this green Earth" we have Idea Factory, Platinum and Take Two.
Unity is criminally underrated by most people because of how buggy it was at launch. It’s low key one of the best AC games.

Really? I never played it because of the bad reception at launch. What makes it one of the best AC games?
As for Valhalla, latest gameplay looks better but very similar to Odyssey. Hopefully they'll go for quality above quantity, there was just too much copy/paste stuff on Odyssey and side quests were lame. So pretty much the opposite of Witcher 3 which it seems to get compared to for some reason.
I agree, Unity was great.
I played it after most of the stuff had been patched. (Not bug free but not noticeably worse than other ACs)
The amount of NPCs was really impressive, even if it was also the cause for the performance issues. However, they might even be gone when playing it on the X.
The also made the story DLC free as an apology.
Sorry, I can’t write properly atm cus I’m on my phone.
For starters, Paris is one of the most beautifully realized environments that Ubisoft has ever done. To this day, it’s still the most gorgeous, and detailed AC game.
Beyond that, it brought real stealth gameplay back to AC. They overhauled the parkour system, to give you more freedom than you’ve had in any game since AC1, and also making it look the coolest it’s ever looked. The mission structure provides you with great freedom on how to tackle your assassination targets, and include some cool unique kill opportunities. And to top it all off, it’s the only AC game in the last decade or so that actually provided some challenge. The combat was slower, but had a real nice satisfying weight to it, and ya....you could actually die while playing it, unlike every other AC game, in which you’re practically god.
