Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony will not be at E3 2019 for the first time!!!

I think people who see the PS5 release as being as far off as end of 2020 are just crazy. That's over two years from now. What do you expect Sony to do for the next year and a half, just keep showing new trailers of years-old announced PS4 games? While Microsoft and Nintendo continue having events and announcing new stuff, you just expect Sony to sit back with some vague promise of a future PS5 announcement for the next two years?

At the latest, the PS5 should be unveiled during summer 2019 for a release either holiday 2019 or early 2020. I'm still hoping they'll opt for late 2019.

Yes this is what will probably happen. If Sony wanted to reveal the PS5 this year they would have done it at E3.

That's surprising, we'll see what Sony have on their hands, but, on the other hand, this move is kind of a blow for E3.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I can't imagine where you got that conclusion from. this news only means that "playstation will not participate in E3 2019", just this! Any other deduction is just speculations or nonsenses

Well because they xancelled PSX and E3. These a big events where they could announce release dates for their upcoming games and get lots of press. Unless we get a release date at TGS i think it's fair to assume no major Sony game is coming out first half 2019(besides Days Gone) and Sonys second half is usually not full of exclusives since they let third parties get the spotlight. The PS5 is gonna come out in 2020 and it would make sense ot have these major games be cross gen.

Your points are valid. Indeed, title like TLoU and Tsushima use events and lots of press when announcing realease dates and making these moves in a event alongside ps5 makes sense, especialy if sony is planning to promote crossgen games and backward compatibility.

It could still be 2019 either. I always expected them to release PS5 in the year of their 25th anniversary, but yes....why not in spring? a spring release seems to have worked well for Nintendo..although it would be a first for Sony. If anything this makes me excited for what’s to come next year.

I’m still surprised by this decision. Kodera said they’d duck a bit, but that’s not what I expected.

I mean the thing is we already know what is happening in 2019 in terms of games....

  • Days Gone : April 2019
  • Dreams : Probably May 2019
  • MediEvil August 2019
  • TLOU2 - March 2020
  • Death Stranding 2019 or 2020

Edit Forgot Ghosts as well... damn still much to come.

So we can see that 2019 is pretty much set in stone and no need to talk about these games at E3 or announce games new for 2020 as they'll be PS5) as Sony have learnt that got them burnt before when trying to match MS for earliest announcements (I think this is the change in attitude). I think MS will go back to E3 showing logo's etc but if they dont mention next gen, I think thats lost on the audience.

Layden actually stated they wouldn’t have enough new stuff to show, so they’d rather back out instead of delivering a disappointing show...we’ve all seen X018 a few days ago.

The more I think about it, the more a big 25th anniversary PSX in December, with possible PS5 announcement, seems to make sense. PS4 was announced in February, so what difference do 2 months make?

This, i realy think sony will make psx for 25th anniversary very especial, they are holding some new games and realease dates for the PS5 reveal at PSX 2019.

Ineresting. What are they up to i wonder? Are they up to anything...

Hunting Season is done...

But why ?

Wow..if that’s true it’ll give even more fuel for possible PS5 announcements in 2019, with a spring 2019 reveal at a separate event.
What else could be the cause for this? So they won’t even have games to try out at E3?

Imho this clearly hints at a new, separate event. Most likely for PS’s 25th anniversary next year.

This has to be the most bizarre conclusion one can arrive at from this news.

If aything this means its 110% confirmed that PS5 will not be coming in 2019 and practically a loc for 2020.

I can see sony having a very quiet year in 2019 and just focusing on price cuts and deals then early 2020 after over a whole year of media silence they show they start the PS5 hype train.

Makes sense, they don't have anything else to show. They cant show up with the flute guy and the same trailers for the same games as the last two years,so skipping E3 makes 100% complete sense for Sony. Just release PR and video updates or even your own digital event for games releasing in 2019. Then return to E3 with ps5, boom, done.
