Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wall Street Journal Japan Reports A New Switch Model Will Release In The Second Half Of 2019

I’m okay with an XL version coming out in 2019 as long as we still get a big power revision in Q3 2020. I don’t know if I’d want the power revision to come out in 2019 just because I want it to be as strong and competitive as possible and it’ll probably need more time.

You can bet that without 2DS, sales would be much worse than they are.
Psshhh such a lame stance!
That can't truely be proven one way or the other without knowing how much of the overall sales are from 2DS, though I don't know how you can get much worse than a nearly 50% drop YoY. The 3DS XL atleast helped keep sales stable. However I think the new 2DS XL is another sign the 2DS didn't meet expectations. Just like 2DS is an acknowledgement that 3D is undesirable, so too is the 2DS XL an acknowledgement that no clam-shell is no good. It's truely the definitive 3DS model, if only they had launched with it.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

It will be an XL or Pro or S. A lite version makes zero sense because of the joy cons. It will break compatibility with Labo.

This new switch will most likely stay the same dimensions so the accessories fit.

And besides the new switch will push the price of the old switch down making that the default budget switch.

- Better screen
- Better improved more efficient SOC (likely custom based the tegra X2 or higher)
- Better Battery life because of the two points above
- Double the ram 8GB (already leaked through firmware)
- More storage (we could see Nintendo introducing variants like 64gb and 128gb options)

Metroid 4, Bayonetta 3, Pokémon 2019, Monolith Soft new IP, Animal Crossing will be advertised along the new hardware and will take advantage of the extra power.

Some of them could even be launch titles.

Perhaps instead of making a Premium Switch for $300 and dropping the price on the standard model, they'll simply release the premium Switch at $350 to make the standard look cheaper by comparison.

Bet with Liquidlaser: I say PS5 and Xbox Series will sell more than 56 million combined by the end of 2023. (And over 130 million lifetime)

Nintendo is not Sony or MS, for Nintendo is far more important to have low price offer than actually more pricey and stronger price offer, especially now when 3DS is dying that currently covers low price offer for Nintendo on market.

We can realistically have current Switch version next year for $250, but thats still not low enough price option that will replace price point of market that 3DS currently covers, they will probably need $200 price offer next year espacily with launch of Animal Crossing and Pokemon gen 8.

They could probably get Switch down to $200 if they wanted with a cost-cutting revision. Use a cheaper screen and plastics, etc.
