Forums - Gaming Discussion - After Marvels Spiderman. Where do Marvel games go from here?

So is the Spiderman game like the Arkham series in terms of quality?

I imagine Spidey will stick to Sony. Other properties will almost certainly be multiplatform for at least the PS4/XB1 but might also get some Switch love there as well.

I very much doubt it. This will head to PC and Xbox just like Nier Automata, Hellblade etc. MS won't need to buy any companies either, Insomniac isn't bound and I'm sure Marvel and Disney had the foresight not to get tied up in an extended contract. Even if they did, Sony would let them loose out of good will as they've already gotten all they can benifet from this.

Why are people using Nier Automata and Hellblade argument? They were never announced as exclusive(only announced platform they are coming) and Sony never said they were exclusive. Spider-man has always been talked by sony, marvel and Insomniac being ps4 exclusive. Marvel even said multiple times in interviews that spider-man will stay with sony and insomniac so they probably have some kind of deal for multiple games ( I can give you youtube interview and some websites about that).

Square Enix have a Marvel game in works so hopefully thats good. I think all other games including that Square Enix game will be multiplat. I feel like Insomniac games are perfect for most Marvel games, because Insomniacs humor fits marvel.

Hopefully they keep it like they have been doing license on a game by game basis however, I see no reason why Marvel can't contract insomniac for a sequel without sony being involved and have it be multiplat

X-men, X-men and more X-men.

Well Marvel wanted Sony first party polish so probably went to sony. Also it sounds like its multiple game deal with sony and insomniac, so I doubt they can back off from it. I bet there was some kind of deal from different apartments in Marvel and Sony for multiple movie rights and multiple game rights, it probably was win-win situation for both. Arent Insomniac using sonys motion capture?

They should do it on a game by game basis (like Star Wars should have been done) rather than stick with a specific dev, publisher or platform. That gives more variety and more chances for something good rather than potentially being stuck in a deal with a publisher who's screwing the franchise up (*cough* Star Wars & EA *cough*).

Also, they should totally make a deal with Koei-Tecmo for an X-Men Warriors game.

Yep i agree. In the case of sony and Spiderman, sony obviously had considerable knowledge of the IP from the movies which i am sure played a part in the license being given to them.

A similar approach needs to be given to other ips.

It seems that Spidey has finally found a good home with Insomniac. Now they should start looking into their other franchises as to what gameplay style suits them and which developers are best qualified for the task of making that style with those characters. For example, I think a hack 'n' slash Thor game developed by the God of War team would be incredible. I think Rockstar, if given the chance and if they want to, could make an amazing action/adventure Captain America game.

Doesn't Sony own the Spiderman IP? It's not coming to xbox, other marvel games sure; not spiderman though.

Edit: apparently Sony, Marvel, and Disney all have some sort of stake in the Spiderman property.

Nothing will change, except that we will get a sequel or two from Insomniac. The endgame heavily hints at a sequel in the works. Insomniac does sequels to most of their IPs.

Oh, and roflol at people thinking Spider-Man will ever come to another platform. Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man. Go port-beg somewhere else!

Forget Marvel. Get Insomniac to do a Superman game.
