When you're talking about millions and millions of people, it's not very easy to exaggerate. You do realize that these are people, yes? Human beings?

Millions in a country of hundreds of millions, we are the 3rd most populated country in the world. We even have an illegal immigrant population higher that most countries have a total population.
Also, when you make big sweeping change to the healthcare system you could effect millions of people who had good/affordable healthcare. This happened after Obamacare passed for example. In 2013, when Obamacare was implemented premiums skyrocketed for many. I experienced that myself at a previous employer.
Personally, I'm a bigger fan of expanding the public options over an attempt to socialize healthcare.

Premiums under Obama rose 50% in whole from the start of his presidency to the end.
Premiums under George W Bush rose 90% in whole from the start of his presidency to the end.
The ACA was far better at quelling the rapid increase in premiums than what was happening before.
Also, FYI, the "public option" is socialized healthcare. Just like Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and others are socialized healthcare.

Well it doesn't help when the government is already pouring a endless stream of money into many social services. Even before reaching some sort of public healthcare option there is always some new social program being proposed, like universal basic income. |
I agree that there are many social programmes that compete for the same space and there are ways in which the US could do them better (and other countries aswell) but we do know from other countries that Universal healthcare saves the people and government money and that is what baffles me. I know that it´s corporate America that doesn´t want universal healthcare and that they have bought many politicians but I still find it astounding how many politicians that lack vision for the country.
It's impressive to see some people in the comments being so against free education and healthcare... In many countries it works well, in many European countries the life expectancy and other health index are much higher than in the US, which is supposed to be the first power of the planet. Plus, we do not have more debts than other countries: better access to health and education create wealth, it's simple.

You can thank your Republican party for that. Since they did whatever they could to stop anything that could possible make Obama look good, even things they wanted they turned down. At the end of the day, as president you get the glory or the blame but since this is a team sport, if one party does not want to play it makes everything else a compromise.

No... Obamacare was poorly designed from the start and rushed through congress.
Obama made a lot of changes to healthcare in this country, some I like and some just made it difficult for working people to afford healthcare.
In my opinion, if people feel "free" healthcare as the greatest and most important thing a country can provide for its people I can get behind that via some sort of subsidies for those who need them (for legal citizens preferably). But they have to focus on that alone and quit asking for a total welfare state which could never be achieved and kills their platform.

Fun fact, the US has over 100 million people on some sort of government health plan. With that much of the population relying on the government for healthcare, why can't the US government get better deals on healthcare or provide quality service?
Isn't that the idea of government run healthcare? The government would decide how much its willing to pay thus pay less for services, drugs, etc? It just seems to me the US government is bad at spending on healthcare and abysmal at providing it.
Maybe my logic is completely flawed. We don't have free healthcare FOR EVERYBODY but many do get it essentially free or significant help, we don't have universal healthcare either. but we do have a massive population relying on the government for healthcare. I feel like we aren't seeing the benefits of so many people relying on the government for healthcare. This is also why people stick with private, our government isn't so good at it.

Have you not seen price comparisons for how much Medicare pays providers compared to private insurers? You might want to do a little research before posting because it looks really silly. In terms of overall costs, government negotiated medical expenses are much less overall than private insured negotiated medical costs.

I seem to have a much better understanding of American culture than you do. How else would you explain your country being vastly more wealthy and yet having worse conditions for its most fragile citizens than countries with much less of its per capita GDP? It's because Americans shun the idea of helping someone below them. It's always "why do I have to pay for this" or "why do I have to pay for that". And that mindset allows politicians to continue cutting taxes on the wealthy so the rich keep hoarding their wealth and the middle class is happy because those under them now have less support. It's hilarious to see. Nobody in America makes a ruckus about the billions in unneeded corporate subsidies but oh no, if just one person uses their food stamps to buy something not completely nutritious it sparks immediate reform. America is a barbaric state compared to most other nations. It can't even guarantee all of its citizens something as basic as healthcare and instead chooses to have corporations profit off of dying people. |
Healthcare isnt a right. No other animal has healthcare and humans didnt have it for 99% of history. The law of nature is of every man for themselves.
