What are the first week sales of BD in the U.K. according to VGC? I still can't figure out how to bring up the old week by week chart again.

By the way, I thought it was cleared up that Octopath isn't made by the Bravely team?

Bravely Default is by Silicon Studio and Octopath is by Acquire.

Yes. The producer is that same iirc, which is where the confusion comes from.

I don't think that developers think in those terms. I know they do. Developers are aware of sub-genres and distinct features/styles that can harm or increase sales. Look for example at the rise of features similar to Dark Souls in other games since the success and acclaim of that series. Or the creation of party fighting games after the rise of Super Smash Bros, which created that sub-genre of fighting games. Or the multitude of battle royale style games after all the attention PUBG got.

Or just talk to an actual developer. They pay attention to what is trending and what elements of a game appear to make it successful so they can suit their games to the market.

As to the second bolded section, that may or may not be true. One could argue that if FFXV underperformed that the company would be too damaged financially to take a risk on a new IP like Octopath. But on the other hand, Octopath is much lower budget and in the light of an underperforming big budget game like FFXV Square-Enix might choose to focus on multiple low budget titles to reduce the risk of a single big game flopping again.

On the third hand if you mean had FFXV flopped completely, Square-Enix could have gone bankrupt and we'd get no new games from them ever... well, that's possible, but you shouldn't support games you don't like in the hope that the company will produce something you do like sometime in the future.

You are not being to asked support something that you do not like. I don't know why that keeps popping up in this discussion. You are being asked to understand the importance of something that you do not like. Game profits are not trapped in some self contained box; Action RPG profits do not only go more Action RPG's, and classic RPG profits do not only to more classic RPG's (another in a long list of fan misconceptions) funds from games like FFXV, Nier, and KH3 fund multiple other games in different genres. You may like not FFXV/Nier/KH/Mana/Type 0.....fine......but know that their success paves way for more games like Octo. That is the idea here.

As I said, it's basically the same with Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Just Cause. FFXV-success doesn't help greenlight an Octo-style game, and Octopath-success doesn't help greenlight a FF-like game. But for the financial bottom line every game is important, not just RPGs. I said that before, but you ignored it. That's the point irritating me.

Octopath in the combined SKU physical and digital sales in EMEA charts comes in at 2 and in the individuals is number 1. The chart does not include digital sales on Nintendo consoles so it's really impressive.

Here is the GSD Combined Physical/Retail Chart for EMEA (Week Ending July 15th):

Last W       This W        Title
2                 1                  FIFA 18
NE              2                 Octopath Traveler
2                 3                 Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
963            4                 Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
3                 5                 The Crew 2
4                 6                 Grand Theft Auto V
6                 7                 Mario Tennis Aces
7                 8                 Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
15               9                 Super Mario Odyssey
12              10                Minecraft: Nintendo Edition

For some reason they didn't do charts like last week and only included one and only the top 10.

This is some super hyperbole.  It doesn't show that what so ever.

Maybe I should have reworded it a bit. They don't want ONLY  Heavy cinematic RPGs of today. I want more RPGs that depend on more Role-Playing and Gameplay than something that is hellbent on telling a story. Octopath Selling shows that there is a market for people like me.

Cinematic is not really a point of contention imo. The crux here is the turnbased gameplay and art direction. People want traditional RPGs and that experiences, this  doesn't necessarily have to be massively budgeted.

Captain Toad sold copies last week to chart at #963 and FIFA and Crash both were ranked second last week, but no title was ranked first? Has the intern written this list in ten minutes? Sorry, that's not directed at you, but at the source. The article even notes Captain Toad raising over 900 places, without thinking about that strange thing and checking the release date.

Captain Toad was including the already released Wii U version, so it rising over 900 spots isn't a mistake. Crash and Fifa being listed as number 2 for last week is though.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. That makes sense for Captain Toad, didn't think about it.

I wonder how many copies do you have to sell to be #963, maybe like 20 or something like that lol

OT: Octopath snapped.
