A game like Mario Tennis is not expected to push hardware, MHW is. Yet, a system without it, still outsold it. Without "big" games you could say. There is your answer.

Mario Tennis is the biggest Nintendo release in almost a year (until Super Mario Party in early October). How is it not expected to push hardware? Did Nintendo give up?

Nintendo had a strategy of releasing a bunch of small-medium tier titles from Jan-Oct this year which seems to have done a good job of keeping steady/consistent sales.

Jan-Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

Feb-Bayonetta 1+2

March-Kirby: Star Allies/Hyrule Warriors DX

April-Labo Variety/Labo Robot

May-DKC: Tropical Freeze

June-Sushi Striker/Mario Tennis Aces

July-Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Sept-Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna

Oct-Super Mario Party

Umm it is?

Sales up to week 7

PS4-558k

NSW-405k

Sales since since 7

PS4-482k

NSW-761k

i'm talking about 2018 total sales.

Which seems like goal post changing since the post i quoted said "Switch was supposed to destroy PS4 by this time of the year", it is and has with the exception of a few weeks when a ~3 million selling games released.

So you expected the pS4 to sell 356,625  in 4 weeks and 3 Million for MHW in Japan? If so then show me proof of that?
Even with my optimism with the game it shattered all my expectation in just 1 week with DD sales.

Ok since you want to continue on about this. I expected the PS4 to have A: a higher baseline (I don't believe the shortages went on that long) and B: MHW to still appear in the charts (cause I don't believe it's only selling digitally now). So in essence, sell longer (A wider mountain so to speak) with the added effect of moving more consoles than usual. That is all.

@bold, and why would you think that? In 4-5 weeks with a tiny price point MH Generations sold.

[3DS] Monster Hunter Generations # <ACT> (Capcom) {2015.11.28} (¥5.800) - 2.521.859

For the entire next year it sold

[3DS] Monster Hunter Generations # <ACT> (Capcom) {2015.11.28} (¥5.800) - 266.126 / 2.787.985

Mostly of course at the beginning of the year during post holiday boost.

Monster Hunter World on the other hand in 4-5 ish weeks.

[PS4] Monster Hunter: World # <ACT> - (Capcom) {2018.01.26} (¥8.980) 53,982 85,322 1,890,273

And ~700k digital.

Sales since then :

2, 006, 158 at least as of week 16 and >~150k digital

TLDR: It is performing pretty normal for a MH game, despite the high price point.

You didn't answer my question. >_>

So basically after 5 months you expect PS4 to still sell 40K every week and PS4 to sell 40K weekly in summer period?

As for MHW. Farsala. already did a good job at explaining it.

Wouldn't be more fair to compare to Monster Hunter 4 and not Generation? I say this because I always was told generation is a spinoff.

Why would it be more fair?

4 or 4 ultimate? Either way I chose Generations because it was quick and easy to find all the numbers and they sold very similarly.

Would likely be more fair to compare it to Tri, since that one was on a dedicated home console, no?
