People mistaking the complaints about cross play are equally confusing to me. Try to play a game like Battleborn or Evolve on PS4, you won’t play very long because the queue times are garbage. Wouldn’t it be great if cross play allowed you to matchmake with not just PS4 people but also Xbone, maybe even PC in some cases, and Switch? Suddenly your MP title got a lot more life.

“but I don’t care for MP!” - then you shouldn’t care whether cross play happens or not.

“but Sony shouldn’t share their market lead with competition!” - this is corporate shill type thinking, and not looking out for your best interests as gamers or your fellow gamers best interests. Furthermore the only games being talked about thus far are Rocket League, Minecraft, and Fortnite. Do you really think Switch or Xbone owners have trouble finding players in these games? The big games start this trend and smaller games can follow suit.

“but last gen Microsoft didn’t want cross play!” - whataboutism is not a valid argument to use, especially when you’re arguing against your own consumer rights, lol.

This thread is almost depressing to read. Someone above said they support Sony hijacking Epic accounts. Like, what in the fuck? lol

Well... it's funny to make a headline like: "Don't play on PS4 or you can't play on switch."

But, It's more "you can't play on Switch with your PS4 account" isn't it?

I know people really want to pressure Sony about this, but i think what they are doing is perfectly logical and should be expected at this point.

I always remember how Microsoft did the same exact thing last gen but the other way around. Sony wanted to play ball, but Microsoft didn't. This is a game, and they are all playing the saints when none of them are. Whoever is on top will try to keep staying on top and whoever isn't obviously wants them to not wall off their customers. Sony has no reason to help their competitors. It would be naive to do so. When the roles are reversed the tune sung will be different.

At the end of the day. no one "NEEDS" cross play. It's a convenience that would be nice to have, but it shouldn't be expected. Sony would be letting go of millions on revenue that would be lost to competitors in micro-transactions. Who in their right mind would do that? If it was a smaller game, maybe, but a juggernaut like Fortnite means a lot of money.

Yeah i mean the sharing of accounts. It's the same thing in the end. It means players can't cross over with their account.

Actually, this isn't even new or restricted to Nintendo/Microsoft.

FFXIV on PS4 is a shared but different account from PC. You can't buy an expansion on one and play on the other. You have to buy it on both. This revenue is what i think the sony execs are being adamant about.

You can have $100 worth of shit purchased on PC in Fortnite, created your Epic account on PC, and played for 350 hours on PC. But because you logged into a friends PS4 to show him/her your cosmetics for five minutes, your account is now held hostage on PS4 and you cannot use it on Switch or Xbone. There is no defending that. There’s no “revenue” Sony is missing out on, there’s no relevance to past games like FFXIV or other games that don’t allow you to transfer your account and purchases across platforms, because Epic allows you to do that with Fortnite. Unless of course, you’ve ever played on PS4.

The uproar about this will make them change. It’s a good thing. And then maybe they’ll loosen up about cross play.

Those Epic accounts aren't associated with Sony with any way, so nope.

Apparently even if you have played Paragon on PS4 (not fortnite), you will still get locked out of your account. This is inexcusable.

Instead, Sony replied by boasting PS4 sales numbers, which has absolutely nothing to do with this....
