So it would seem this is one of those games Nintendo were referring to when they said they had more games coming this year aimed at expanding Switch's audience.
Also I kinda hope random encounters stay dead, it's a horrible mechanic.

The textures and overall level of detail would've been subpar on the Xbox 360 much less the Switch. Even with the same art style it could've had much nicer textures, lighting, effects, and overall detail.

I'm sure they could up the lighting and effects with a flick of a switch on whatever engine they're using. They chose not to. It's supposed to be simple.

It's still understandable though that people feel a tad short-changed when a high profile Switch game looks below the standards of a console that released in 2005.

It's about what I expected too, just saying I can see where people are coming from if they feel a bit let down that this is on the same machine that brought us Mario Odyssey and Kingdom Battle.

True but Mario and Zelda and Xenoblade, these are all console entities. Their predecessors were already not just console games but HD ones, giving the devs substantial foundations to build off. Pokemon is now making that HD jump. This strikes me more as a New Super Mario Bros U or Wind Waker HD, a first step.

There have been more impressive first HD leaps than this though even on weaker hardware; Mario Kart 8 and Xenoblade Chronicles X, and for instance. Again, this is pretty much what I personally expected as Gamefreak tend to be technically conservative, but I do understand where people are coming from when they say they expected more from a high profile Switch release.
