Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumor: In late 2018 Switch will get update with a bunch of new third party AAA and 1st party games

If this rumor is true then I hope it doesn't mean that Nintendo will just release a bunch of games in the last half of the year every year. I prefer them spread out through the year not all bunched up in three months. That happened last year and I missed a few games because of that. I mean it is not like I am too busying working in the 3/4 of the year and suddenly have a summer vacation in the last 1/4 of the year now.

Anyway, I have been suspecting that Switch sales will explode eventually but that can't happen until a big game and a steady stream of software to follow it up. Maybe Switch sales will start rapidly increasing late this year. More games. More sales and I can see that happening soon.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

We've been hearing that this will be a solid year for third parties for a while. But it is likely to be a port heavy line up again.

I'll definitely be surprised if Nintendo can best their 2017 output somehow (not in quality, but at least comparably sized new exclusive experiences).

The first half of the year had Zelda and Arms vs Mario Tennis and Kirby. That's a lot of ground to make up already. Then the 2nd half had Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Odyssey, and Xenoblade 2.

What seems likely for the rest of the year (Smash, Yoshi, Pokemon, Fire Emblem) would make 2018 solid but probably not equal to 2017 imo. Retro's project could definitely change that outlook though.

Well, I certainly Nintendo does have much stronger 2nd half of the year, as it certainly has been rather slow so far on the console. Not terrible, but compared to their stellar line last year, it certainly looks bad.

And then comes E3 and everybody is disappointed. They don't have cards they are hiding, it's sad, but it's the truth. They have no reason to save a huge 2018 game for E3. The reason they announced Smash Bros already and the reason they are releasing so many Wii U ports is to keep everyone calm during this huge drought.
They could save 2018 if they just released the Virtual Console + online service + a bunch of online games like Fortnite, Overwatch and GTA Online, but honestly, what are the odds?

Nintendo Switch doesn't even have basic OS features and stuff like cloud saving, I don't know what they are doing right now, but I hope it pays off.

It is weird. Yoshi has pretty much disappeared since its reveal. Just weird hearing next to nothing about it for almost a year

Looks like it's becoming a regular thing for Yoshi to be announced and disappear, since the same thing happened to Woolly World

Nintendo is showing discrimination against dinosaurs

What huge drought though, there's been games every month. Maybe not one's you personally have been looking for,but there has been steady stream of games consistently

To be fair Pokemon from start is stated like 2018. or later release, while for instance Metroid Prime 4 is TBA. We also had few indications that Pokemon could really come this year,  localization is already started few months ago , new trademark...in any case I definitely expecting Pokemon or Animal Crossing this year alongside Smash Bros.

I know they've said 2018 or later, but I am pretty certain it's "later".  Going from 3DS to Switch is a big leap in graphics and such.  I think they are going to need more time to get it right.

If Pokemon is hitting this year then I have to say that I think we're getting something more in line with what the franchise has always been. It's not going to be some big open world with Pokken level graphics. There's no way GF could make that leap and finish it that quickly. It will be more like an HD upgrade of SuMo, otherwise it's gotta be a 2019 release imo.

Well if there is no change for 2018. they wouldn't mention 2018. and they would stated only TBA like they did with Metroid Prime 4.

To be fair we don't know for how much long Pokemon for Switch is in development, game was announced last June but that doesn't mean that development started than.

Would love to see a third party lineup like this for holidays:

GTA V
The Witcher 3
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Kingdom Hearts III (I know I'm really dreaming here, especially since it's probably not even coming out on X1/PS4 this year lol)

All those games have some or good chances ending up on Switch except Witcher 3.

Makes sense. Many publishers were still on the fence before launch.
After 1st year results there's no point to hold on anymore, and considering the times needed to ship new games, we won't likely see those before fall 2018 or early 2019.

Totally agree, development of new games even porting requres time, and most 3rd party seriously started looking at Switch for its games only few months ago (when was obvious that Switch is success and that already has solid install base), so I also think we will start seeing bigger and stronger 3rd party suport from fall 2018. and especially in 2019.

Not sure if this is a rumour or a fairly conservative prediction (with a slight dash of wishful thinking thrown in for good measure...half the third party titles will see delays due to difficulties in the porting process)....

Well this guy is from big third party company, so he definitely knows what Switch will have than you and me.

What you talking about? Almost everything you wrote is not true.

Last E3 was great for Nintendo and this one will proably be good at least. Offocuse that Nintendo has plenty of cards they are hiding, from announcing Switch it's very clear they dont showing everything they had, especially because they are mostly announcing games only few months before launch, you cant do that if you dont have cards. From February there is no any drouth, from February Nintendo have evre month some release, reason why they announced Smash Bros is because it's most likely September game alongside paid online launch, reason why realeasing Wii U ports is to have stronger lineup and to offer great games to all people that didnt had Wii U. 2018. dont need save, Switch keep selling great and from February every month there is some release, until now its not great but it's not terrible also.

No, Switch dont have some basic OS features, but its obvioulsy its paying off big time, Switch keep selling great and Nintendo continue making great profit.

Why you would think that? He know about Labor around week before it was announced.
