I was expecting this. As you pointed oit its still $300. So outaide any boosts it will get from new software releases its generally going to track lower than last year.

However that also goes in line with what I'm expecting at the tail end of this year.

Having all their first party games at the first half of the year while the PS4 is still $299 allows sony maximize profits on both hardware and software. No doubt there qill be a price srop soon, probably around august/september/october to $199. Coupled with price drops on all the software releasing now and maybe even bundles. Do sales of the PS4 in the last quater of this year will be significantly better than they were last year.

Thus ending up with another 19-20M year. Come next year though, there will be no more cards for sony to play outside software releases and bundles.

switch is just slacking in europe

well PS4 already went out to 80+ million people. it was at ~75 at end of last year. definitely sold at least 6 mill in 4 months.  so it should slow down that makes sense.

Sony should be dropping the price this late year or early next year to make a very long stride to a 100M quickly. slim should be ~199 by year end. pro should be 349 by year end or even 299

they don't really need to but its always very worth it to ship a lot of consoles late in cycle to boost software sales. also build a good install base to have PS5 already accustomed to

It still may reach 80 million by June.

Okay, to the gurus in charge of these numbers can you please tell me why rest of the world has gone from completely PS4 dominated to practically equal in share between PS4/Switch? What charts do you look at? What info do you have for the rest of the world?

Its 46k vs 32k in PS4 favor, how is that practically equel?

Also Switch launched in Taiwan & South Korea back in December which has likely helped the weekly baseline increase from last year.

Well yeah, they don't "need" to. But if droppong to $199 this year means they have 100M sold around this time next year, or even more (lets not forget there will be a RDR bundle) then the sooner thwy do it the better.

The more people they have owning the PS4 and a PS+ subscription come the PS5 the better.
