Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Kotaku: Switch Has Three Times As Many Games as Wii U Did At This Point - And They're Better

And people like Josh Thomas from the youtube channel Nintendo Beyond still claim the Wii had a much better first year in terms of games than the Switch lol. Some people are so full of themselves that they can't see reality anymore.

I don't have a Switch yet, but I'd say with a killer Zelda game and an ambitious 3D Mario the Switch's first year wins against pretty much everything by default.

Well Wii had those as well in its first ~12 months, Twilight Princess Nov 2006 & Mario Galaxy Nov 2007.

The number of Wii games seems low

Back then Indies weren't present in such a number on consoles and the Wii E-Shop was a pain in the ass. So sans downloadable titles Wii and Switch may be closer. WiiU had downloadable title from the beginning including indies, so that comparison is fair. But because of downloadable titles WiiU looks close at all to Wii.

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

Is it really fair to say they're better than the Wii U? Like the some of the best Switch games currently was a) remastered from the Wii U, and b) Zelda was originally meant for the Wii U.

Also, no new 2D Mario is a bummer to me. 2D Mario all the way!!! :P

Good point, thanks!

All the defenders of the Wii U for all these years are starting to look pretty silly..

Absolutely.

It doesnt matter if Mario Kart, Pokken or Zelda are ports/cross-gen, they still count as good games that Switch had early on that Wii U didnt have.

The fact that Wii U had multiple droughts in its first year while Switch had a steady flow of quality titles says it all.

I'd argue that the much, much, MUCH larger Indie scene is helping, as the Wii was a bit before indie games started to become a thing at launch and the Wii U wasn't a huge indie machine....still good but context, even from a Nintendo fan, is needed.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

quality first-party titles, support from multiple third-parties, and a welcoming environment for indie devs

the Switch is just doing everything right. ive even double dipped on a few indie games just to have the convenience.

Yes, we know the Wii U was horrible, stop rubbing it in.
