Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Kotaku: Switch Has Three Times As Many Games as Wii U Did At This Point - And They're Better

And people like Josh Thomas from the youtube channel Nintendo Beyond still claim the Wii had a much better first year in terms of games than the Switch lol. Some people are so full of themselves that they can't see reality anymore.

He is not exactly wrong. It is heavily subjective but number of games or even the metacritic score does not tell the whole story. A transcending game like Wii Sports is most definitely worth more to console than probably every indie title out on Switch. If you take just the big titles on Wii and Switch in the same time period, you would be hard pressed to outright claim he is wrong. It could go either way and I have found that bias plays a heavy role in the opinion on this topic.

He is not crazy to think Wii had a better first year. I think it did, too. Switch's first year is nothing to scoff at but I prefer Wii's first year more.

Even in terms of original titles Switch is killing Wii U

If you include Indies, yes. But if not, I'm not so sure.

The indie scene was not nearly what it is today and while those games do matter, it does make this an apples to oranges comparison.

Conversely, if we remove the indie titles and make it a more straight up comparison, Wii edges Switch just a taste. I keep saying Switch and Wii are successful for the same reasons. People should listen.

You are talking about Wii, i was talking about Wii U.

Absolutely.

It doesnt matter if Mario Kart, Pokken or Zelda are ports/cross-gen, they still count as good games that Switch had early on that Wii U didnt have.

The fact that Wii U had multiple droughts in its first year while Switch had a steady flow of quality titles says it all.

Of Course it's, we talking about same time period, and Switch killing easily Wii U with big quality games and number of games for same time period in any case, actually 1st Switch year is probably best ever for any Nintendo hardware.

I get what you're both saying.  But then to me that's like saying the PS4 was killing the PS3 because in a short span the PS4 had GTAV, TLoU remaster, Uncharted collection, GoW3 remaster etc.  It just doesn't sound right to me.

Wii U may have been slow at getting games, but new games on a new system takes time.  Porting a game doesn't require as much time.

Not exactly same thing, all those PS4 games wasnt released in PS4s 1st year, and here is point about Nintendo platforms.

"Wii U may have been slow at getting games"!? :D    Wii U 1st year was terible, not single one strong big game that could be system seller game, and huge droughts (we had few months whitout any release), and thats actualy one of biggest reason why Wii U failed and one of reasons why Switch is selling so great. Talking only about new bigger good games, Switch has ARMS, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Wii U had only NSMB and Pikmin 3.

Again, Switch killing easily Wii U with big quality games and number of games for same time period in any case, actually 1st Switch year is probably best ever for any Nintendo hardware, while Wii U 1st year is probably worst.

Edit: Let me change my comment. I do think this is impressive.

Wii Sports was a shallow tech demo at best. The game sucks.

Wii's first year was nothing notable outside of a few big Nintendo releases.

I could've sworn the Wii had more physical releases of party games alone at this point in time than the Switch's entire library...

well he may be talking physical releases. That I don't know. But to me they feel about on par with physical games as I only buy them.

Tetris was a tech demo... also the most influential game in history and still very relevant today.

OK seriously, you are on a message board. Don't be stupid. Don't make stupid posts.

Have you played Wii Sports? It's not a good game. Not at all.
