Fairly sure its wrong now. 2m shipped to Asia as a whole is my assumption. 650k digital is unheard of for Japan, as well as the 2m out of ~6m attach ratio for a PS game.

There is always the first time. 1.35 FW sales were also not expected by the majority of the people when this was announced. 140k of PS4 so late in gen in non-holiday period is also amazing.

The day D3 Publisher announced Earth Defense Force 5 crossed 300,000 sales, Media Create showed its total at 212,000, meaning 88,000 were digital sales (~30%). If Earth Defense Force 5 can do 88,000, I think expecting 650k from Monster Hunter: World is reasonable especially considering the wide spread shortages and first week sales.

Digital Estimates from Famitsu (Nov 27 - Dec 31)

PS4 Earth Force Defense 5 - 65.165 (25,6%)
NSW Super Mario Odyssey - 21.383 (4,0%)
NSW Xenoblade 2 - 19.684 (11,6%)
NSW Splatoon 2 - 17.795 (4,8%)
PS4 Yakuza Kiwami 2 - 13.197 (6,8%)
NSW Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 12.666 (3,8%)
3DS Pokemon Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon - 9.003 (1,6%)
PS4 Nobunaga’s Ambition Taishi - 8.917 (15,7%)
PS4 Call of Duty World War II - 5.910 (10,9%)
NSW Zelda Breath of the Wild - 5.121 (4,7%)

Was like 26%. Amazing for sure, but easier for a smaller  game.

Compare to DQXI PS4 with 11%. Or any other big game.

A 32%+ would be difficult. Those shortages would have to be severe.

Monster Hunter World debuts with 1.35 million copies sold at launch, no digital included.

PS4 sold 140,000 in that week, across all models.

Above 2 million with Digital according to Famitsu

That is fine, but not great even great including digital. So the japanese base is more or less maintained. Lifetime sales will be strongly dependent on the legs, but that should be fine, it is MonHun after all.

FW and LT in Japan for previous titles:

MH Freedom Unite (PSP): 0.86M (4.13M LT)

MF Freedom 3 (PSP): 1.97M  (4.87M)

MH4 (3DS): 1.78M (3.44M)

MHX (3DS): 1.49M (2.82M)

MH4G (3DS): 1.50M (2.63M)

So this has already beat all of them in its first three days then?

First week is first week, pretty much every game starts late in the week. So the numbers are comparable. This are VGC-numbers (that reflect Media Create and Famitsu), so only physical. I don't think though the previous entries had that massive digital ratio. Probably Freedom 3 on PSP has reached 2M with digital, and there is a slight chance MH4 on 3DS did the same (but unikely, that would've needed 200K digital sales).

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

Obviously just because of the much bigger install base.

I don't think Portable 3rd had a digital version. MH4 actually debuted a few k's higher, but its legs were weaker.

Ah, thanks for the info. So first week including digital is on the same level as MH4. Which is fine.

BTW, I expect good legs in Japan for MHW. That's because I think PS4 was selling slow in the first years and is picking up speed now with DQ and MonHun. Probably a number of MH-fans hasn't a PS4 yet. But we'll see.

Well I expected so =p.

Absolutly astonishingly strong debute. Great decision on Capcom's part to rethink the formula. 3 million + on the PS4 in Japan alone is pretty much in the bag. Yeah, I think we can easily call this one a success story.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

THIS IS HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE OMG

Let's go Capcom!

So this is the biggest FW for a MH game?

Only home console game to sell 2million since 2010.i thought consoles are dead in japan.
