Forums - Microsoft - Polygon: Microsoft's Current Dilemma With Games

The rumor seems to have been speculating for months according to a reliable MS insider buy he thinks the actual buy out is unlikely.

He makes a good argument, in that, if MS were to acquire EA, it wouldn't be about gaining exclusives, but rather gaining a Library large enough to start building a true gaming version of Netflix. That makes a lot of sense to me.

I don't believe EA is good value for money to a Sony or an MS. As others have pointed out, they would be unlikely to retain licenses to FIFA and Star Wars unless they kept them multiplatform.

So - EA would only sell for value reflective of their multiplatform sales of these games, but MS could never extract that value fully.

On the other hand, they could use their significant developer base to make all other IP and future IP exclusive, while keeping SW and Fifa games multiplatform. But thats a lot of value they have to pay for and immediately give up.

Given the Battlefront 2 debacle, EA may be unlikely to retain that licence anyway

I think that will depend very much on what happens with the big re-vamp they have promised in a month or two.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

MS buying Valve out seems too perfect as a buisness deal. Valve is one of my all time favourite companies next to Blizzard however there old and they dont make games anymore. MS can merge there Live Store with Steam and every Windows user will have Steam built in. It would be expensive but Valve is a small company and not housing many staff. They probably want to retire now. A big enough pay check might convince them and the future of Windows/Steam will remain safe.

That would hurt Apple.

If I recall correctly, isn't Valve a private company? That can be easier than a publicly traded one... or impossible, if the person/people who own it have no intention of ever selling.

I thought it was an article by the onion, but no... polygon.

Same level of credibility though

At least the Onion is entertaining and often has clever commentary behind their content. Polygon is just pathetic.

You know what this story reminds me of? That time Nintendo try to do a hostile takeover of Bandai Namco. But in the end Bandai Namco manage to not only stop Nintendo but in exchange of the shares Nintendo already bought, Bandai Namco gave them Monolithsoft. Curious if this is true and Microsoft goes the route of the hostile takeover if it will end of the same way.

Not palusible, but if they would have aquired EA, that would be huge. This is how the industry works, they should, just as Sony, aquire studios or companies they believe can add to their portfolio and generate revenue.

Wishful thinking and rumor mongering gets clicks.

If this is real, I don't see them profiting from it.

CPU: Ryzen 9950X3D
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 PRO

Valve and EA seem quite unrealistic, but I could see them acquiring PUBG.

IF they got EA though, that would be a major blow to Playstation - not so much for Nintendo. And this would really go go show that they're in the business for the long term.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
