Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Emily Rogers: Lots of Switch Ports For 2018; NSMBU Switch Port Coming?

Emily Rogers (now an admin at Reset Era) said this earlier in the month, and she's been generally pretty spot on with her Switch/NX stuff, though this stuff is on these posters, not me:

I'm going to be brutally honest with you.

Nintendo's strategy with 2018 is to rely on third party stuff + ports of older games.

They believe that's enough to hold them over until 2019 when they bring out the big guns. (Metroid, etc)

Now insiders at Reset-Era are saying a port of New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U from the Wii U is also going to be one of the Switch's releases later on.

This is from Ehoavash from Reset Era who's supposedly reliable:

Heard from a source that bandai namco is indeed making MP4

Smash 4 switch deluxe port is happening this year

And also NSMB U + port is actually a thing that's also happening lol

Year of ports baby qqq

I don't mind the DKC port, but I think I'll pass on NSMBU ... it's not that it wasn't a good game or anything, just not something I'd want to play again. Surprised Mario Maker for Switch isn't being made a bigger priority.

Well, they needed 2017 to be spetacular, so I dont really blame them...

but god, I do hope that the bulk of the games for 2018 is ports.Im not gonna lie, I would be pissed.BUT, if other companies pick up the ball with games like Octopath Traveller and SMT V, then Im more than fine with it, because then I will have games to play

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Overwatch for Switch is being rumored as one of the third party games.

The key for these ports is the price point. If this is what they are going to do to pad out their year, then please, please introduce a $39.99 price point for these titles unless the additonal content warrants a full price.

Isn't DKC $60? Don't think Nintendo is going to charge much less, they view these as effectively new games to most of the audience since most people didn't have a Wi U.

Super Mario Maker is definitely the most important MARIO game to either make a sequel to or port over at this point, but lord will the absence of Miiverse be obvious. I'd love to see Mario Maker on a healthy, populated system.

I'll confess to growing impatient with the lack of anything resembling Miiverse on the Switch... why discontinue that service if you had nothing to replace it? Miiverse was brilliant, all it needed was a rebranding and some tinkering... Nintendo can be very frustrating at times heh

As for the rest, that strategy makes sense. Third party, Wii U ports and some first party from franchises that are popular but not necessarily huge sellers (Kirby, Yoshi) is probably all they need for this year. The eventual Pokémon title alone is sufficient to revitalize the system should it begin to experience a lull at some point.

I hope for better 3rd party support this time around, but given the past track record with 3rd parties ...

I hope 2018 doesn't kill the switch momentum.

I'm starting to doubt if Pokemon will be ready this year, could be though I guess.

Smash Deluxe + Animal Crossing will do Nintendo well. They could have another kind of IP in the 2nd half of the year beyond Labo too.

I would think Mario Maker Switch would come before New Super Mario Bros. U port, but who knows.

Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Yoshi, Smash Deluxe, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, for 2nd half 2018 + maybe one new IP or Labo Set 3 ... that's basically your remaining 6 month spots kinda filled.

Damn, that's significant as she said that before the Mini Direct dropped, which was indeed port central. Well if one of those ports is Smash and they have Animal Crossing as well as Fire Emblem being amazing, then they should be okay this year. Likely wont be selling 20 million Switches though.

We know of four new games in the first half of 2018: Kirby, Mario Tennis, Labo Set 1 and 2.

Sounds like she is exaggerating and refering to Metroid as a big gun doesn't help her case.

I agree. There is also AC which if that isnt a "big gun" title then what is (exclude MK/Pokemon)

Also at this point i think Smash will be a new game. Only way excepting a smash port is if they actually add new modes and a bunch of characters in it to make it feel "new"
