What are the economics behind releasing a console in a poor country but making it more expensive? Is it all taxes on importing the product into the country?

Wouldn't it be cheaper for someone in India to purchase the console from somewhere else since it's region free.

Custome duties for electronics is 28.852%. Thing is that both Sony and Microsoft could circumvent this by manufacturing consoles and games in the country itself. Its close to the Gulf states too so it would be great for all these areas.

It is cheaper to import but there is no warranty which is a big deal when it comes to expensive electronics.

Looking at amazon India and hearing Anecdotal reports ps4 absolutely dominates the Indian Market. Sony should start producing them in India though, because if they did sales would see a very large increase with the drop in price.

Sony keeps fucking the consumers with their pricing strategy Xbox could make a comeback and I hope they do because PlayStation brings no discounts at all and that's just bad for consumers.

Such ignorance!!

Unlike US corps who dodges their taxes, Japaneses corps pays their tax.

Not exactly out of the goodness of their heart's lol... Japan has similar laws to China which make it essentially impossible to dodge corporate taxes via the use of subsidiaries in tax haven countries. If loopholes were available they'd certainly be exploiting them too, which is why the laws were necessary in the first place.

Japan is still home to one of the most oppressive corporate cultures in the world, and their reputation for quality has been on a steady (and now hastening) decline for years now, as seen in the latest scandal where most of the top manufacturers have admitted to outright lying about materials and quality dating back to the 1970's: https://www.ft.com/content/26d4843a-e743-11e7-97e2-916d4fbac0da

I'm not posting to imply that the rest of the world's corporate cultures are intrinsically better, but rather to point out that Japan's corporate culture is also riddled with serious problems.

Since we're in VGC, let's talk about videogame corps shall we. Fortunately Sony and Nintendo aren't one of "them"

I live in India too,and honestly that's a way better launch price than I expected, though because of such high prices I usually buy consoles when the next generation is already underway (got a ps3 just a year ago) so most probably a 2021 purchase xD

The PS4 is also way better advertised, there are not many TV adds , but usually other types (newspapers) ,also Sony has a much better presence here as a console maker because of the PS2 and psp , Microsoft is mainly known here as the software company.

Microsoft did however have a bit of success with 360 but squandered it with the xb1. What part of India are you from?

Bangalore, yes they had a fair bit of success but failed to carry it on because of that awful launch, also store shelves have more of a Sony presence,( Sony also has their own showrooms) while mostly Microsoft has products displayed in the laptop space, have to go to a mall to sight some Xbox one's, though it's gotten better in the last year because of the Xbox one S , however I doubt the X will do very well.

There are so many other things wrong with corporate culture in Japan that I wouldn't exactly glorify them even if they did pay their taxes out of the goodness of their hearts..

The PS3 is expensive for what it offers. Its like 18k for the 12GB version. Which one did you get?

It does have amazing exclusives, pretty much the best of any platform IMO.

Nice man, I do think Bangalore and New Delhi are very different markets. Xbox One is doing decently here. That's the reason Microsoft had a launch event here I think xD
