Forums - Movies & TV - I just watched the Last Jedi and (spoiler)....

I can definitely understand where you’re coming from. The movie was good, but despite being the longest film in the franchise, it felt like it offered the least in terms of story. So many scenes that seemed like filler were just so drawn out, and the concepts of Jedi and the force just felt like little mentioned afterthoughts. It’s cool that it showed a lot of the people who work behind the scenes, but it just didn’t feel like Star Wars. Even Rogue One was much more of a Star Wars film because at least the battle scenes were great. It just didn’t feel like I was watching Star Wars, though still not a bad film. I wish they had done more with Kylo Ren’s plot line here. it really does feel like they just retold his past again, and brought right back to where his character was at the end of Episode 7; nothing really changed about him, and Rey just became more powerful than before and will more than likely kick the shit out of him in the next film.

I can see where you're coming from, but while it was disappointing I still thought it was good with some stellar moments. The kamikaze crash and Luke force projection were higlights for me, but I didn't like the Pong or caretakers. I get why they used the puppet Yoda but (I recognise I'll probably be in the minority here) I preferred the CGI model.

Also the casino mission was jarring. Rose was a pointless exposition character who didnt need to be there. Finn, having been a main character in VII was little more than a supporting character here. The film should have the guts to allow him to die in the final battle, but chickened out in a really forced way capped off with Rose's naive hero attempt (she also should have died there but her plot armour was too strong). Reflecting on that, it just feels weighed down by needing to focus on too many characters (Rey, Kylo Ren, Luke, Poe, the Vice Admiral, Finn, Rose - all roughly in order of importance). Considering that, no wonder there was no backstory for Snoke.

Rose had to be WORST character in franchise history, I dare say even worse than Jar Jar Binks (at least he could produce a few laughs). Did we seriously need a chubby love interest, with a stupidly snobby backstory, for Fin? When I realized she was going to be present for more than 5 minutes, all I could think was “Why?!?!?!”...

Alot of the people behind the film made some cringy sjw comments that highlights the fact that they put alot of things for bullshit reasons. It's similar to the state of marvel comics.  If they would just put more effort into the writing, pick actors on merit instead of race/sex and stop trying to ham fist progressivism into everything, we would have better films. It's no different than when religious people try to put a religious message into everything. It just sours whatever they created. I don't really care if sjws or religious people make their own content with their "messages" in them but don't hijack other content then inject that bullshit into it. Let me make this perfectly clear, I'm fine with anything with "diversity" in it but it has to make sense within the story and come off as genuine. For example, Predator 2 with Danny Glover. I really like that movie because it's a good movie. The character is perfectly written and well acted. The blade movies are pretty good. He seems like an actual badass. Coming to America is another good movie because the way it was done. I wish I could get baths like that. Sanford & Son is fucking hilarious. Why? Because they're genuine and they don't have sjws trying to ham fist their world view into it.

Ok, let me see if I understand. In a war between galaxies that involves dozens of different alien and humanoid races you think that it would make sense for the humans to be represented by only one race and one gender?

I mean, since the very first movie we have seen blue, green and purple people, humanoids with tentacles and with furry, reptilian humanoids, etc, etc., but having people from different races from planet earth doesnt make sense to you?

Seriously, do you people bother to read posts? Where the fuck did say that I said the film has to have one sex or race in it? Not anywhere. Did i imply it? No. So what the fuck happened in your thinking when you read my post?

Yes, you were implying that the "diversity" in the movie doesnt make sense within the story and come off as genuine.  And I disagree. I think it DOES "make sense within the story".

That's not all I said in relation to that. Making sense within the story is just part of it. If they come off as tokens or they are poorly written or the character was just created to fit in a certain person because of their race or sex, the character shouldn't be there. The reason why I pointed out those movie as examples is to show movies where the characters made sense within the story, were well written and likely not chosen just because they wanted them for the sake of diversity or progressivism. They fit the roles well and come off as genuine. That's not the case with the last two main SW at the very least. I liked rogue one alot because it was written better, no plot holes, no breaking of SW canon that I know of and it was well acted.

Poor Luke. What have they done?
Even Mark hates his character in ep viiii.

That's completely false, his last declarations about the movie were very positive, that sentence was taken out of context.

He hates it and nothing was taken out of context. He was pretty clear just like the reality: disney does not know how to make SW movies.

People can like their attemps, but that does not make those good SW movies.

All I'm saying is if I can project myself all the way across the galaxy and look anyway I want to look, all they're going to remember about me is my huge penis.

Luke didn't do that.

Edit: (I wanted to tweet this but my wife doesn't like be tweeting about my penis.)

He could have, but he didn't. And for that, he's still my hero.
