Oh I didn't realise they've released those already. Still adds to the costs even more which was my initial point. How much are they?

On the MS store, bundle ranges from $450 to $650

The Samsung has a better screen 2880x1600 OLED, HP is 2 x 1440x1440 LCD

But yeah. the Skyrim VR Bundle which includes everything is also $450. PSVR is only 1920x1080 OLED though, but has proven itself to work reasonable well. How the MS motion controllers hold up in actual games remains to be seen.

The difference one needs to consider is also the more advanced display tech in the PSVR. It's not just an OLED, it's a RGB matrix which greatly reduces the screen door effect. It's also a 120Hz screen!

Basically even a 2880x1600 OLED with a pentile matrix (just assuming it has a pentile screen) can end up with a more noticeable screen door effect than the PSVR has.(As can be seen with the "4K" Pimax already.)

I can't imagine an LCD screen would even be suitable for VR tbh, like the one on that HP one.

You are right, Samsung one is still pentile:

The display (1,440 x 1,600 per-eye, OLED) offered a noticeably sharper picture, both compared to the other Windows VR headsets (1,440 x 1,440, LCD) and to the Rift and Vive (both with 1,080 x 1,200, OLED). Granted, I was still able to see individual pixels, and the screen-door-effect (the space between the pixels) was more pronounced than I would have hoped given the resolution, quite possibly due to Samsung’s unique PenTile subpixel arrangement. Contrast seemed better between the Odyssey’s OLED display and the LCD display of the other Windows VR headsets, though I’d want to spent more time with the headset to further feel that out.

It's still a 1.48x boost in total subpixels over PSVR, but thanks to the pentile arrangement you get larger gaps responsible for the screendoor effect. At least text should be more easily readable, which is what they were designed for anyway.

After some more research, perhaps MS is right to delay VR on the X

To be fair, resolution should be fine for games, screen door is a bit concerning though.

For HP I can only find a windowscentral review
http://really.ru/news/vr-hardware/5784-hp-windows-mixed-reality-headset-review-im-a-believer.html
And even though they give it 4/5, they list plenty of problems to be sorted out.
UploadVR compares the screendoor effect of HP to that of Rift and Vive, so it seems PSVR still comes out on top for a solid picture.

And adobe very trusthyworthy report have PSVR selling more than PS4 even on the days befor TD and BF... the thing is on fire.

There just seems to be a witch hunt going on atm against PSVR lol. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/12/doom-vfr-review-a-rip-and-tear-delight-but-only-on-the-right-vr-setup/

It's far from perfect yet promoting not being able to move, teleport only, over free movement to bash psvr... The future of fps, teleporting... Meanwhile it's a blast to run around in Doom VFR on PSVR, moving around freely at full speed. If only you could adjust the aim height and not have the ugly guns sticking up in your view as if you're driving a gun turret. Or if they had simply stuck to the the far superior gun handling of Far point.

Sony and PSVR are the cool thing to hate... I even heard a friend saying there are plethora reports of Sony paying for ports to be downgraded on X1X

Tbh I am not surprised by these mediocre reviews. Sony has many years of experience with headsets and decades of experience in optics and screen technology!

Only a fool would think third party, cheap PC producing companies would all of a sudden be able to match their experience that easily. Just as Oculus’ and Valve’s experience of course. Samsung at least has access to screen tech, of course.

Just copying Sony‘s ergonomics is only a small part of the equation. As I‘ve mentioned earlier, this move by letting third parties develop the hardware is showing lack of dedication from MS‘s side.

I'm not surprised, the $200 entry point is absolutely killer. Even as somebody incredibly skeptical of gen 1 VR, I bought one at that price!

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I was expecting it to do pretty good in the UK when I was bombarded with advertisements everywhere about a bundle which had a PSVR headset, camera, two Move controllers, and either Skyrim VR or Gran Turismo Sport for £249.99... I was like wow that's actually a really good deal, and I was SO tempted to pick it up, but I just don't have the room to play VR yet, so decided against it... although I'll say this; It was a hard decision to back away from!

Do you have a place to sit, that's all you really need. Some games work better while standing like Superhot VR. PSVR is not really suited for roomscale, nor is roomscale much more than a gimmick imo. No matter how much room you have, you're always restricted by your physical space and groping through virtual objects or walking through virtual walls and objects doesn't feel any better. Playing while standing and physically turning instead of using an analog stick, does help to get used to VR, but you don't need a lot of room for that.

Except if you like sports games like Holoball. That needs plenty free space as you'll be hitting things around the room or even the ceiling. Skyrim, RE7, Dirt Rally, all the best games, play them while sitting. Luckily Superhot VR plays out in slow motion so less danger to knock something over :)

True, that’s a major advantage compared to Vive for example...you don’t need to dedicate a whole room to it. A big plus for convenience, especially in some countries with less space available. (Even if it objectively looks like a draw back not to have room-scale, and for some people of course it is one.)
