Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo plans to make 25 million to 30 million Switch game consoles next fiscal year

Pokemon + Animal Crossing + China in 2018 or whoever said that smokes some bad weed, then again, they don't necessarily need to ship the whole production.

They'll sell, too. I watched a video yesterday where a longtime Nintendo hater said he was probably going to get a Switch. It's shaken things up in a good way.

A few months back I wrote in a thread that the real question is if the Switch can match DS sales. And Nintendo seems to be aiming for this. I also said Nintendo needs more female gamers and more mass market appeal with the Switch to sell that much. Again, Nintendo is aiming for this as well. It is perfectly logical for them to target a broader demographic next year. That doesn't mean we'll get no core games because Nintendo's resources will be focused only on the Switch in 2018. They can release enough core and casual games.

Next year will probably see the release of Animal Crossing and Pokémon on the Switch. There is no reason why a Switch Sports and a 2D Mario couldn't be there as well and Metroid could be there. There will also be better third party support than in 2017. Nintendo has a lot of resources all focused on the Switch, the only question is: Will they deliver or will they become arrogant again and start to make the games *they* want instead of the games the market wants? We'll have to wait and see. But if Nintendo plays their cards right there is a big chance they'll be the market leader next year.

This is what I think too. And I think a Switch Sports would sell great and would be working well with the Joycons.

Nintendo’s Mr. Kimishima said the company would release more games for casual users next year.

This worries me.

Switch has sold as well as it has because it appeals to core gamers; trying to recapture the Wii crowd by focusing on gimmicky software aimed at non-gamers would be a huge mistake.

I have to respectfully disagree here. The pool of core gamers is a lot smaller than we'd like to believe. Switch is succeeding because it's tapping into markets that don't regularly buy games or consume information about games.

That's a bit... yeah.. I don't think they're going to move that many in a single year, I don't think anyone does.

Nintendo did with Wii and the DS.

Numbers aren't surprising, but I wasn't expecting this in Switch's second fiscal year.

Pokemon confirmed?

Yes

Switch!!!

Imagine these four games being released in 2018

1. Pokémon
2. Animal Crossing
3. Gran Theft Auto 5
4. Monster Hunter World

If Nintendo manages to get those two game released and has managed to succeed in convincing the companies to release the other two in 2018 I can see a lot of consoles being moved by those games.

Edit: Also they should be getting Dragon Quest. Fire Emblem has garnered many new fans of the series on the handheld side as well. There is a lot of potential demographics/markets that have not yet gotten a switch out there.

Pokemon won't come out next year. And this statement isn't  coming from Nintendo. I believe WSJ (or a similar outlet) said Nintendo would ship 18-20 million Switch this fiscal year. They were right on the increased shipments, but it's still below the roumored number (might reach 18 m if Nintendo is ready for it).

My point is... wait for next year's forecast before calling anyone crazy.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
