Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo should teach their 3rd party supporters their file compression secrets.

As most already said, there is no magic.

video cutscenes take far more space than in-engine cutscenes (especially when they're in higher resolution)
Spoken dialogue needs lots of space.
Better audio quality needs more space. (AC3->DTS->DTS-HD->DTS-X)
PS4/X1 games have several language tracks included. Combined with better audio quality this adds up quite a lot.
Higher resolution textures

If you want to play AAAAA third party games on Switch, just download them digitally on the SD card.
All the updates that the game will get will be digital either way. So embrace the digital future now.

I don't care about AAA third party games on Switch, so I actually enjoy to see them failing with games that demonstrate that they lack talent, competence and respect for the consumer.

Switch third party support will be plenty fine without AAA.

Expecting to see you say that when other Nintendo fan complain about lack of support and companies that doesn't bend to Nintendo. I don't remember seeing you on those.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

It IS a lack of effort/laziness/not enough talent or skill.

Crash Bandicoot N'sane Trilogy for example has a file size of 24 GB. Is anyone really going to argue that Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are smaller games then that? I can give you many examples by the way.

Compressing games would require actual effort.

Thank god we have Nintendo to do what no one else can.

Well if Zelda can be smaller then 4Gb why Smash for WiiU needed 15Gb?

File Compression Secrets? Hahaha XD
You mean that third party developers should decrease the graphical quality of their games.

Developped by Bandai Namco. It also has a shit ton of music tracks, so 15 GB actually isn't that much.

Owww so audio now justifies it? Music in mp3 takes about 1MB per min... so there is 10000 min of music in it? And Nintendo couldn't teach Bandai Namco on how to fit it on 4GB for WiiU?

Nintendo should have told Nintendo their secret when making XCX. Almost twice the size of Zelda before even downloading the 10GB~ of patches? I mean come on Nintendo, there's no excuse for that kind of laziness. A more texture dependent art-style, more geometrically complex world, voice acting, and a generally different design philosophy might have been an excuse in the past, but not in 2017.

And don't even get me started on Tropical Freeze. A side scrolling gorilla needs almost as much space as Zelda? They really are Retro.
