Forums - Gaming - Why is there no such thing as luxury gaming?

$599 US dollars!! Second job!! Giant enemy crabs!! Blu ray!! Wifi!! BC ps1/ps2!!

Ps3 sure seemed like "luxury" in 2006.

I constantly ask this question. Why can I buy a Walkman for $65 to $3,200, or a Bravia for $200 - $20,000, but with PlayStation I am stuck with a $300 Slim or a $400 Pro.

I would absolutely love to see PlayStation and Xbox models in the $1,000 - $1,500 range. I would like to see VR offered from $300 - $3000, and Contollers from $60 - $600.

Unfortunately, the console market is still looked at as a joke to the business class. Executives at the big three still see them as toys, and not as serious consumer electronics. Consoles should be the Smartbox of the Home, and Handhelds should have never even let Smartphones as we know them exsist, but Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all failed to capitilize.

On the bright side, with Kazuo Hirai at the top of Sony, it appears that things are very slowly changing for PlayStation. PS4 Pro, PS VR, and PS Vue are all looking to expand PlayStation's value in the company, and change the image of the brand. We also have the Xbox One X pushing for slightly higher end boxes from Microsoft. My hope is that all of these we be successful, and push for more high end consoles, and broader OS's and features.

I know some don't really dig Ken Kutaragi, but he had an amazing vision. He wanted PlayStation to be the heart of all Sony electronics. PlayStation was supposed to be the digital hub of the home, and everything in your home was supposed to connect to your PlayStation. He even wanted PlayStations hardware to be scaleable so that it could be used in all of Sony's products to help streamline the expereince and connectivity between all Sony devices. I personally still share this dream, and hope that some day, my console, my phone, my camera, my car, and all of my other electronics can run in harmony via one unified OS and a Network connection.

$9000 gaming laptop luxury enough for you?

Maybe a 30k gaming pc?
https://www.gadgetreviews.io/the-worlds-most-expensive-gaming-pc/

Should work nicely with a 50k 4K ultra short throw laser projector

Thats basically what the Pro and X are doing.

The problem with a 5000k+ PC is that it is very rarely worth it. A 1000$ PC is high end as long as you're getting an i5 and a good graphics card.

That being said yes, you described an overboard PC

Spending millions on a high-end car is also often, rarely worth it... As roads have speed limits.

I think the real answer is there aren't PC parts out there that cost that much. Tech brand names aren't that big or valuable, so companies can't get awat with it, and it's not as easy to brag with a $20k PC (in your room/office) as a $200k car (which you take out). So there's no market for such things.

Apple might be the closest to it.

Voodoo PC had a 24K, Gold Plated, Water Cooled PC once.

And you can buy a PC with 7kg of Gold casing for about $1 million smacko's.

Or you could go for a Platinum, Diamond Covered PC for a good $750,000.

That there is your "Luxury Gaming". And it's available on PC.

400-500€ worth of luxury, uhuh... no.

I know the OP rules out a gaming PC, but the closest you have is just that.

To all saying that is PC, I think you are missing what the OP is saying. Yes, PC is expensive, and can be consider Luxury, but it is more in the vain of a Race Car or Monster Garage type of thing. I believe what the OP is looking for is something more like a gaming equivalent of the Viper ACR, Bugatti Veyron, or Ferrari Laferrari. A stock, super high end device, with unparalleled optimization and engineering, capable of every day use, and the ability to dominate the track on the weekend.

The PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are as close as we have right now to what the OP is describing, but they are more like a Miata with a trubo. We still need the baseline Corvette/Viper and the insane stuff like the Viper ACR/Porchse 918 Spyder/McLaren P1.

To break it down:

PS4/XBO = Miata/FT86
PS4P/XOX = Miata/FT86 with Turbo
PS4?/XBO? = Viper/Corvette
PS4?/XBO? = 918 Spyder/P1 (I believe this is what the OP is looking for)

Basically a (Street Legal) console that can go toe to toe or beat a i7/1080ti PC, but not on the level of an over clocked and water cooled i7/4 Way 1080ti SLI (Race Car).

I also wanna add that we used to have such console products in the past... Look no further than the Neo Geo and 3DO!

The former being a very niche product that pretty much died with the original SNK, the latter, well, a commercial failure.

It's called a full Neo Geo AES/MVS collection. That would run up into the hundreds of thousands.

You can buy cars for 15 000$ or 150 000$, the latter offering all the latest tech and conveniences available.

Why doesn't a 5000$, 10 000$ console exist?

It's the entertainement industry - rich people will easily spend those amounts to get the absolute best experience for their passions - be it travelling 1st class, michelin star dining, aforementionned cars or tickets for prestigious events. Why isn't something similar offered to leach off rich gamers? Yes, you can spend indefinite amounts on high-end gaming pcs if you really want to, but that's a product clearly aimed more at the extremely dedicated, not the extremely rich, seeing as they lack the sophistications and convenience that would usually be associated with a luxury product.

Gaming isn't a status symbol for the majority of people, like a car, a villa, a watch.
