Forums - Sales Discussion - Kotaku - Switch is Dominating PS4 in Japan

Well yeah, my comment was directly aimed at that :p Contract deal or not, it's still not free. The means through which it's paid for just change (similar to the 'free' games with PS+).

I think you're being nitpicky here tbh as it's obvious what was meant by contract deals, many people don't pay an upfront fee for iPhones unlike portables.

Perhaps, but given how often people earnestly phrase things that way (PS+ is again a good example), i prefer not to assume :p

well, PS4 hit a strong 2nd wind in Japan like 18 month after launch, but ya sales were not good after launch for PS4 after the initial launch so it is nice to see Switch holding better.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Pretty strong performance for Switch. Now it's a matter of it getting even more games because of it.

Japanese numbers are solidly available on this site. Last week:

And the week before that:

And before that:

And before that:
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=230935

They're posted every week on Wednesday.

And PS4 launched in February 2014, while Vita launched in December 2011. Vita is only "ahead" in the same way that Wii U was "ahead" of PS4 in 2016.

I don't trawl through threads for the sake of getting an arbitrary number closer to right when it wouldn't change the outcome anyway.

You might have that sort of free time, but I don't.

Then dont bother to try to argument your way through.I mean, I have nothing against a good argumentation, but when you are proven wrong, and your excuse is that "Well, im a busy man, I dont have time for this childish game", well thats just lame and petty.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I may be the only person on the record saying I felt Switch had the Wii-like aura around it. I expected it to be a massive success when everyone else was giving me hell over my prediction. I stand by my prediction that it will sell Wii like numbers which is looking increasingly likely now than back in January when I made my prediction.

*cough* Vita *cough*

And for that regard: Wonderswan, Lynx and Nvidia Shield. It's not like portable consoles get a free pass, it has to be a GOOD portable console.

Vita - not supported by Sony (why would you when you have the PS4)

Switch - full support of Nintendo

Spot the difference.

Sure, Sony dropped the support fast, but Vita had inital support by Sony.

Switch gets better support by Nintendo in comparison to earlier platforms, because Nintendo mostly focuses on Switch and will focus only on it in the future. That was the whole point of the hybrid. But they did split their support earlier, for instance between Wii and DS, and it did work out for both.

Either way, you support my point more than argue against it, because you mention something besides being a handheld which decide upon success. That was what I said.

10 years greatest game event!

Yeah, sure you are the only person that expected 100M+ sales from Switch.
