Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Weekly, 27th May 2017, Hardware and Software

PS4 dominates HW and SW, Mario Kart 8 on NS dominates as single best selling game, for now weekly but we know it will keep on growing for a long time.
NS SW Top 10 has just three Ninty games and seven third party ones, but the whole picture is different from what rankings tell, those three from Ninty are the Top 3 and represent over 85% of total NS SW sales. Are NS third party games utter shit, or it's Ninty gamers that just don't want them and poop on them as soon as they see them?

At this stage I think it's more a matter of third party Switch games just not being that appealing so far. Street Fighter is an overpriced port of a last gen XBLA game, Bomberman is the kind of thing that should be a $10 eshop game rather than a full priced retail release, LEGO City is a 4 year old port, etc.

There simply isn't anything so far that offers even close to the same kind of value as, say, Zelda.

Yes, it makes sense that third parties release their triple A titles when the user base is larger, and just Ninty sell such games since the beginning to help the platform taking off, and surely an expensive version of an old classic like Bomberman doesn't make sense, probably this comparison should be done again when NS user base will be larger.

Those PS4 numbers in Europe are insane, I guess Chartz  is trying to catch up to Sony's official PS4 sales numbers

Persona 5 keeps getting closer to 1 million. Nier is out of the top 25 :( but hopefully it stays in the top 30 for many weeks more. It's having a fantastic run for the kind of game it is.

So how many Switches have been sold at this point, something like 4 million? The wii u was about 3.5 million in the first 3 months. It doesn't seem like a world of difference at this point in actual ownership of the console even if the wii u had retailers saturated with consoles and the Switch has customers waiting for their console. I thought optimistically we might have seen up to 6 million at this point and then a downturn as Nintendo had satisfied their main fanbase. It still seems like millions more are needed just to get to that point.

Seems like the stock situation in uk is back to being partially stocked with many Argos stores having neon Switches and a few online retailers with non scalper prices.

http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/checker-nintendo-switch

according to this site, Switch is at 4.1 million in 3 months while Wii U was closer to 2.5 million and didnt hit 4 million until it was on the market for a full year.

According to the wiki page

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_U

The wii u was over 3 million by the end of 2012 and close to 3.5 million at the end of March. However that was the start of the cliff edge where sales dropped considerably.  On the wiki page it says shipped but in the comments on the wiki page it says 3.5 million sold in the first 3 months of 2013.  It seems like in reality there was about half a million difference. Of course the Switch may not have the big slowdown of the wii u or that slowdown may come after a more significant number of units has sold.

But there's still one thing worrying for third parties, even taking into account your point:  1-2-Switch has sold more than ANY third party game.

Do you not understand the difference between units shipped and units sold?

Those numbers on Wikipedia are from Nintendo's SHIPMENT data. They shipped 3.45 million Wii U units by March 31, 2013, but only 2.7 million of those were actually sold. There were over 700k units that were just sitting on store shelves at that point, because Nintendo wildly overestimated how much they would sell. It's the exact opposite situation as the Switch, which is still sold out in most, if not all major markets.

The Switch is significantly ahead of both the Wii U and 3DS as of week 13.

3DS: 2.6 million

Wii U: 2.5 million

Switch: 4.1 million

You are looking at shipped numbers, I suggest you look at this thread for the actual sales data of these consoles: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=228581&page=1#

Numbers! Total weekly has PS4 at close to 3-1 over the XBO. Ow. Horizon holds off BOTW for one more week. Still a close race, but that should be all she wrote. GTA V continues to be a sweet little indie darling sales surprise. Most surprising: Darkstalkers Warmastered is finally out of the top 75 after it's legendary run.

4:1 you mean? Its insane of how well its selling outside the holliday season.

I was talking about weekly sofware totals. The hardware wasn't even up when I made that comment. Sorry for the late reply. Got the flu for the first time in 5 years. Been fun. Ha. But jeeeeez. Those PS4 hardware numbers. For a week in late May? Holy flurking schnidt!
