I got so damn lucky today.

So I stayed up till 2AM and failed to get a pre-order for Switch 2 on Best Buy (app and site), Target (app and site), and Walmart (app and site)

Woke up 3 hours later to get ready for work - ya...had 3 hours of sleep.

Tried to order from GameStop (app and site) at 10AM - didnt work, the site was dead and the app just failed to load.

I was tired from work - was suppose to leave at 4PM but my co-worker didnt feel well and left so I had to cover their shift which ended at 6 PM.

As I left at 6PM from work, a thought ran in my mind, maybe I should call up my local GameStop which is close to my house , walking distance, I always see it when I go on my trail walks during the weekends.

This was around 6:15 PM - before I could ask, the employee started the call saying they were out of the MKW bundles but had the core Switch 2 bundles - only 5 were left. The guy said he doesnt know if they'll be left in another hour.

I kid you not, the drive back home was hell - traffic was blocked up out of all days, people driving at fricken 30 MPH on a fricken 55 MPH road - like wtf. Every damn turn I took, slow ass drivers.

I got to my local GameStop at 7:00 PM, cause the drive took a lot longer than it usually did.

Got into the store, some lady was trading in a game and that shit took forever, asking a bunch of questions - bear in mind, this was my first time going physically into a store for gaming wise in over 3 years and this was my first time shopping at GameStop in over a decade because I always avoided it from experiences with them trying upsell me a used game for new.

The guy at the counter said there was only one pre-order of the Core Switch 2 SKU left - I ordered it , gave a $50 down payment.

So fricken happy! Got lucky because a few other people walked in as I was leaving asking if there were any more Switch 2 pre-orders.

I feel so damn lucky, getting the last one lol.

Just curious... the Gamestop I was at said you had to preorder 6 items with the Switch (SD cards, screen protectors, amiibos, games etc). They said if you got in that day and you didn't want those items, you could still pick up the switch and cancel the preorders. It seemed odd, but I wanted a Switch 2 so I rolled with it.

Was that actually a Gamestop policy, or is my Gamestop just kind of scummy?

Nah didn't happen with mine. Though I think that's because GameStop Canada and the US branch differ in these practices. 

However they did offer me a list of items to preorder from which is how I got reminded to take the Pro controller as well and Donkey Kong Bananza.

Ah. Down-payment was only 80 including all the preorder stuff. 

The pro controller and camera were not available though.

No, not necessarily.

When I was at Best Buy (I was around for the launches of PS4/XBone/WiiU/3DS/Vita) we always had more units than we had preorders. Because, we wanted people in the store, and we REALLY wanted the kind of people who would wait in line for 6+ hours to buy a system to do that. Because those customers are the ones that are likely going to pick up a few games and accessories.

Honestly, I think stores would much rather not sell video game systems online, but it's just a matter of not becoming obsolete.

I'm just going to wait until either end of this year or sometime next year. A lot of games coming to SeriesX/PS5 I want so I can wait.
