Well, that's my point: it didn't decline on 3DS. It stayed the same. Assuming it would've grown on Vita is speculation.

But it did decline on 3DS. And it was growing nicely on psp.  The growth not only stopped but also a decline happened on 3DS.

The handheld market as a whole declined. It didn't matter what it released on after PSP, it was going down.

Well I'm fortunate in that I purchased MH before and hated it (3 on the Wii U and the demo for 4 on 3ds), so it isn't a problem for me lol.

I played the Wii U demo and that game wasn't for me. I was done with it within the hour. I found it boring and repetitive (the combat was so bad) and while I love my good graphics, I'm not an extreme graphic whore.... but good god. Until Monster Hunter World was revealed those games always looked a gen or two behind when they come out. The Wii U Monster Hunter looked like it could run on the Game Cube and original Xbox. I have it in my mind of a certain level of quality that I expect from Capcom over most developers/publishers. You can probably guess I'm not super impressed with Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite right now either.

Yea I had similar thoughts when I played the Wii U version. Hated the combat. Wasn't it basically a port of the 3ds or Wii version of the same game? I can't remember. Maybe thats why the graphics were so bad? Oh well

I put the numbers up there. In about the same timeframe they sold about the same numbers of copies with four games. It didn't decline.

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

No 3DS title matched the peak on psp.  It declined.

Well, the timing of the titles were different. So was MonHun4 followed pretty fast with MH4U which also came to the west, but declined in japanese sales. So that is not something to pin on single titles. Over the same timeframe four games sold similar numbers on both platforms. This doesn't look like decline. Or differently put: It made the same money on 3DS as it did on PSP.

The question isn't about whether or not Switch will still get Monster Hunter games; it will, MHXX is already coming. The question is whether or not Capcom will localize them. If they can't bother to localize a game that is already >50% localized, because they are afraid it would crack their fragile basket of eggs (MHW), then I doubt they'd localize any new portable Monster Hunter titles, unless MHW fails regardless (which is likely.) So this puts people who want the portable versions to be localized against those interested in MHW. In the West, how Capcom has set things up, one's success directly affects the other's existence.

It's one thing to speculate, and another to jump to conclusions prematurely, or already vent frustration.

It doesn't look like those people compared to previous localization patternns. Because the time between the announcement of the Jp version and the US/EU version of Monster Hunter Generations for 3DS was 1 year and 2 months. The Jp version was announed in May 2015. The western version was announced in March 2016.

It's only been 8 months since Monster Hunter XX was announced for Japan (and that's not counting the Switch version that was only announced 1 month ago, and Capcom may opt to only localize the Switch version, like how some PS titles are only on PS4 in the west while on PS3 as well in Jp) and people are already losing their shit.

We will see. Almost all of the information provided by Capcom's Western community managers has been in the direction of them wanting to focus on the simultaneous launch of World and therefore have no intentions of localizing XX.

I believe you are correct on this. A port of the Wii version I think, but even still Monster Hunter has always been one of those "Gameplay > Graphics" games. People are bitching about the graphics for Monster Hunter World and I think it looks phenomenal in comparison of any other Monster Hunter game for it's time of release, but maybe that's just me and my lack of knowledge of that series.

Yea but the gameplay is the thing I could never get into. Maybe it is supposed to seem like it sucks at first and you get used to it eventually?

Skyrim for Switch allowing joy con motion controls seems awesome, and if they did that for MH I'd probably enjoy it too. It works well for Skyrim because I usually play in the mode where just your hands are shown (which makes perfect sense for joy con).
