Forums - Nintendo - Does Switch really needs Pokemon this year!?

I think Nintendo Switch won't blow anyone away in EU and US this holiday in terms of sales without it. I believe some people will be surprised that Switch does kind of average if it goes into this holiday with just Mario as it's only seller.

Of course, average would be multiple times bigger than Wii U ever did, and it's still only year one, so it's all good overall. But if Switch doesn't get Pokemon, it's chances of a 1m+ November and December NPD are slim

What are you talking about!? You do realize that all games Nintendo announced in January event will be released in 2017. not in 2/3 years. Only announced games from that January event that want be out in 2017. are few 3rd party games.

And why would Nintendo only announce third party games that are releasing late 2018 into 2019? Because they have nothing else in development for the period in between. Announcing games that have just started development (or is not even in development) is a terrible strategy that doesn't make any sense. It means the third party situation may be even worse than the Wii U.

The 3rd party situation for PS4 must be bad considering Kingdom Hearts 3, Shenmue 3 & Final Fantasy 7 Remake were announced years in advance..........

Not at all. Announce that it's coming for christmas 2018 or the end of first quarter in 2019 and the world will be a better place.

I think you are under estimating the ability of Nintendo software to push hardware in the long term.

During the holidays people aren't going to look at Switch and think all it has is Mario Odyssey. They are going to look at it and see Mario Kart, Splatoon, Pokken, ARMS, Zelda, Fire Emblem Warriors, and the various 3rd party titles releasing this year.

On top of that its highly likely we see the first major bundles for Switch this holiday. A $299 Mario Kart or Splatoon bundle will do really well.

Bad example. Kingdom Hearts 3 and FF7R are both made by Square Enix, which had to delay FFXY for more than 10 years. This says nothing about PS4, but rather development problems at SE. Shenmue III also has been in development hell for 10 years due to commercial failures of the prequels.

Nintendo is the one who decided to announce games that are barely in development. Atlus and Suda51 were INVITED to announce their non-existing game. The games you mentioned were not announced by Sony, but by the developer itself.

Are you talking about Nintendo themselves as developers or their partners in the presentation? Because they themselves didn't show anything that were barely in development during their Switch development.

Sure doesn't look like it lol.

they were announced at Sony's E3 conference just like those 3rd party Switch games were announced at their event.

its literally the same situation so you are using double standards here.

It doesnt work like that. People that will be buying Switch in holiday season won't be buying Switch just because of Mario Odyssey, but because Mario Odyssey and Zelda BotW, MK8D, Splatoon 2, ARMS, Fire Emblem Warriors, Monster Hunter...and some other games.

Also you need to consider that even now with only Zelda BotW and MK8D that are out, people can't get Switch because stock situation, and when more games are out (ARMS, Splatoon2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Monster Hunter, Mario Odyssey..) demand for Switch will be just stronger, espacily in holiday season. So real question is if Nintendo will have enuf stocks and regular availability for holiday season.

Basically, he trying to downplay Nintendo while in same time ignoring fact that 3rd party (or Sony itself) doing same thing on Sony conferences.

It's far from the same situation. The games you mentioned are multiplatform titles and thus not overlooked by Sony. Microsoft is just as aware of those games as Sony is. Another big difference is the fact that the games were already in development for some time (there's actual footage of it, not just artwork). There's a big difference between announcing a third party exclusive game not even in development and announcing a game that is in DEVELOPMENT HELL. It's not like they were expecting the game to take so long to develop. It's not like they want us to wait for so many years.
