The DS wasn't a home console.

Neither is the Switch...

Then why am I sitting here, looking at MK 8 Deluxe on my TV with my pro controller by my side? I don't remember playing DS games with a pro controller on my TV.

The awarness among the consumer is that after playing three level no one is buying the full game, only 5% of 78million downloads on SMARTPHONES.. so that's a negative awarness, IMO not something a game of mario's caliber would want.

Yes He is an Iconic character so is Lara Croft, Sonic, Master Chief.. but how many casuals are buying console for those games and same logic applies for upcoming Crash Bandicoot, people who love crash are playstation fan and they already have a playstation 4.

Just answer me this,  which game would you rather rely for sales outside of nintendo fanbase,  Pokemon or mario?

Both are as much important than one another. Don't give me a false choice,we are talking about 10M + franchises.

Crash doesn't have the mass appeal that Mario has with the casual crowd and you just seem to forget that we're already 3.5 years into the PS4 life so of course the Crash fanbase would have a chance of being already installed. But in Mario's case, it ain't. The Switch has been out since only 3 months.

And you seem to forget about those that passed the WiiU era and played all these Mario games on the Wii, there's a lot of them.

I agree:

"As Nintendo's primary mascot, Mario is widely considered to be the most famous video game character in history, and has been called an icon of the gaming industry. The Mario series of video games has sold more than 510 million copies, making it the best-selling video game franchise. Mario was one of the first video game character inductees at the Walk of Game in 2005, alongside Link and Sonic the Hedgehog. Mario was the first video game character to be honored with a wax figure in the Hollywood Wax Museum in 2003. In the 1990s, a national survey found that Mario was more recognizable to American children than Mickey Mouse.  Mario has also been called the "most recognisable" figure in the gaming industry."

Are you crazy??? Of course the entire 10+ million audience of 3D Mario fans already has a Switch even though Switch sales are currently less than half that.

I wonder how will be the sales number after 15m, coz I'm assuming right now the only people buying Switch would be former Wii U owners, the die hard nintendo fans who were like waiting for 2 gens to get a really good consoles from Nintendo and of course scalpers.

This fall will be interesting considering big third party heavy hitters are coming which will not be on Nintendo Switch.. IMO The only way Nintendo could compete is with pokemon.. coz people who are mario fans has already bought the switch.

Why would former Wii U owners be the only ones buying Switch so far, when its only big games to date, Zelda and MK8, are available on Wii U?

Nintendo doesn't need the likes of COD, Battlefield, Destiny, etc to succeed. Wii, DS, and 3DS didn't have those games but still sold well.

Great NS, and it could have been even bigger, I guess Ninty is regretting not having stockpiled a lot more units for the first months.
Very good PS4, despite such competition, particularly this week, its weekly sales are down by a tiny amount WoW and up by a larger amount YoY.
XBOne decent, and 3DS still resists, the rest is annihilated, although PSV in its small niche is up WoW.

Big Nintendo game launch followed by big Nintendo console sales followed by people acting like that particular week number will be the standard for the rest of the gen followed by next week drop(or adjustment) and back to depression (or supply issues) until the next big game.

What is the depressing baseline? 200K per week?

Are these Switch numbers really THAT great considering MK8D's release? How much did Wii U sell in MK8 week?

Don't know about the Wii U but I do know that when destiny launched the PS4 sold around 360k if I remember correctly. Anyway Mario Kart is and will always be a system seller like pokemon. So I don't get why everyone is surprised that it did sell well. The real question is will the Switch still 200k weekly after it got a Mario Kart, 3D Mario and Zelda.

People are surprised because this is not MK9, but a port.

Anyway, Switch sold this well simply because Nintendo had more stock available for Mario Kart release.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Did they forget the WII U sold like crap. Plenty of Switch owners never played on the Wii U unlike many PS4 owners that did own a PS3. Pretty much every Wii port will do well on Switch because the originas wheren't played by many.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Wrong verbiage!

8.31m Mario kart 8 owners aren't few...

So, weren't played by as much as people it would have been played if wii u had  sold way more...
