Forums - Nintendo - Year 1 - Week 52 - Global Switch Sales vs WiiU/XboxOne/3DS/PS4

So all that loud cheering for Switch being ahead of PS4 launch aligned or that it is doing better on its first year than PS4 on its peak isn't quite true, it is more restricted to some markets than globally... like globally in US and Japan?

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I don't think anyone has said it has been ahead of PS4 launch aligned, at no point other than week 1 was it ahead lol. What people have been talking about is that For the past few weeks, switch has been catching up to PS4 (slowly, but steadily). And that IS globally; regardless of how poorly it is performing in Europe / ROW, overall, it has been recently tracking ahead.

i should note that very few people who actually look at sales would think switch will overtake PS4. Maybe you heard people saying it could end up having a better first year due to the holiday season still coming? Which is possible, but nonetheless speculation.

Nope, there were some people celebrating the Switch doing better than PS4 on the week and expecting Switch to outsell PS4 when both stop selling. I won't say it is a lot of people, but there were some.

But so far Switch have been presenting a very good sale performance.

Not beating 3DS (which was still hard to achieve, next week probably also the 3DS is in front, agfter that they should compete hard). But another 50K taken out of PS4s lead.

I feel like Switch's market penetration in Europe is insufficient right now. Nintendo can count itself lucky that Japan is making up for it.

Japan can prove itself a valuable asset when it comes to tapping into its portable market.

Could also simply be supply issues, at least for some part

Anyways, that's again almost 50k more than PS4 that week, Switch is creeping slowly by slowly closer to Sonys console.

I think we can rule out supply issues now. Europe is just not that into Nintendo Switch because of many factors, including the fluctuating price and lack of targeted software for their demographic.

Creeping slowly, but 50k more per week ain't gonna cut it. Once PS4 enters its second Holiday, that margin will be nullified again. See how it performs after Destiny is released (Week 44), and it isn't Holidays yet.

I will eat my socks, promised, if Switch can manage to overcome PS4 second-year aligned.

very good Switch! Even so, unfortunately, it seems there is an issue on Europe sales :/

The usual: europe is not the best market for Nintendo.

Week 27 (176,195 Switch consoles) has not yet been updated in the OP?

Meanwhile, week 28 is up, at 175,006 Switch consoles

Both weeks are comfortably above PS4 sales (won't be the case for the next week, as the PS4 jumps to 216k there), but trailing behind the 3DS due to it's pricecut (though here the following weeks are at ~165k, so less then what the Switch did the last weeks)

And of course, Nintendo Investors meeting with official sales updates tomorrow. What are you guy's expectations for the Switch?

Those graphs show really how bad this gen has been for the Xbox One. The WiiU was really a failure, it's not worth mentioning here, and the 3ds had had some good times, the Ps4 achieved amazing sales, and the Switch is pulling some nice competition there.
