Forums - Nintendo - Wii U port begging (on Switch)

I wouldn't really mind a 3D World port during a quiet period in 2018 or 2019 (after Mario Odyessy).

Wii U was a garbage console. If I had any sort of money problems, I would've skipped over it and have used the money for a good PC. Good games, bad console. Don't blame >99.999999% of the population for not playing games on a console they didn't even know existed for the first few years of its life

I think Wii U was good console, but Nintendo made too many mistakes (marketing, name, price, concept, launch and 1st year lineup...), that didn't really had chance on market.

The irony is most of the people begging for this shit were the same who attacked Sony and MS for doing the same thing for the X1 and PS4.

But yes, stop with the fucking port begging. Jesus Christ. You never saw anyone go "I want Super Mario Sunshine ported to Wii right now!" or "we dont need a new Smash game, Brawl was perfect. Lets just get a Brawl port for the Wii U." No, fuck that. Buy a Wii U if you want Wii U games. If I get a Switch I want new games, not games from 2012

Well 2013. and 2017. are not same, today remasters become standard for gaming industry, that wasn't case in 2013. Also huge difference compared to PS3/Xbox 360 is that Wii U was bought only buy 13.5m people while PS3/Xbox360 was bought by 80m people, so there will be tens of milions of people that missed great Wii U games beacuse Wii U was faile but they would gladly play them on Switch.

I am Wii U owner, and I want more Wii U ports, same like Wii, 3DS HD ports and 3rd party ports. Ports doesn't mean there will not be new games, especially because in Nintendo case most of those ports are done by external teams. One example, MK8D is just launched and next month we will have new game from Mario Kart team. More games is good thing in any case, especially if they are great games that only small number of people actually played them.

I'm not mad at anything. If you wanted to play these games, you should've bought a Wii U. When you're trying to get its 10-20 exclusives ported to a new machine, sounds like your the one who's mad. I'd rather get sequels to mario maker, smash, yoshi, donkey kong, etc. I'm not saying ports are bad, I'm just saying I don't want the systems first year to be full of them. The only two ports id possibly buy are a smash and hyrule Warriors one (if they included all the content from the 3ds versions).

Oh and I certainly did not have buyers remorse like a certain commenter said, I bought almost every Nintendo game released for the console along with a good bit of third party games (I prob have around 30-40 retail titles for it) and I haven't finished half of those. So I'm still enjoying my Wii U

If you want to play the games, buy the console, I'm sure Wii U's are gonna be pretty cheap soon.

That's not how things work. Some people liked few Wii U games, but they didn't want to buy failed console without future only because those few games. Another a more personal example is PS3, I liked few PS3 games (TLoU and Uncharted games) but I didn't want to buy PS3 because only them, but I later both PS4 and 1st games that I bought are actually those games. And again, port doesn't mean we will not have new game.

You can hardly find Wii U in sale, it discounted few months ago, and even if somebody can buy Wii U, it better to pay little more for Switch than to buy Wii U, espacily when defintive editions of Zelda BotW and MK8D are on Switch and some other Wii U games will be ported.

I'm fed up with all of this port begging. I bought my Wii U to play exclusives, it was not worth buying if you could skip it and play all those games regardless. Breath of the Wild on Switch should have never happened, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe should have never existed, end of story. People who skipped the Wii U do not deserve to play any Wii U game.

:D

So some of best games of last two gens should never happened!? People who did not buyed worst selling Nintendo console in history and their biggest faile, dont deserve to play Zelda BotW and MK8D!? People who skipped PS3 don't deserve to play TLoU and Uncharted Trilogy!? Sry, but thats just crazy.

Ports/reamsters are become normal thing and actual standard for industry, you will hardly ever play game that will be exclusive only for one console and that will not be posted later, we even had N64 games that were ported this gen. Better accept that or accept that consoles are not for you.

I was just thinking I'd love to play Super Mario 3D World and Smash Bros on the Switch in handheld mode lol

It's probably in your best interests to just get used to it and not stress over it, as I imagine we still have a few coming.

Why 3D World when an new actual 3D Mario is coming out?

Because they are not same games, beacuse SM3DW is great game espacily in multiplayer regardless new 3D Mario.

I don't know why you're so against them. It only allows them to reach an even bigger audience, as well as more profit for said games, considering the Wii U didn't do too hot in the end. It's not like it's slowing down development on other games, seeing we're getting quite a number of new titles, both old and new IPs. It seems strangely selfish to be completely against porting Wii U games, when it wouldn't really hurt anyone at all. Keeping them strictly on Wii U likely would, actually.

This. QFT. Its not like every title is going to be ported, but rather we will have the quality Nintendo BC we deserve after the ports.

No , Switch needs more WiiU port.

Magnus said:

If backwards compatibility was intended to sell old games to new audiences, they why didn't Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft reprint old games? Because BC was never intended to sell more old games, and any extra features backwards compatibility offered games were minor.

They DID reprint popular titles if they still saw enough demand and these titles were still available in stores years after the start of the next generation. Sometimes in form of budget series (Nintendo Selects, PlayStation Platinum), sometimes in form of extended/optimized editions (f.e. MGS 2: Substance, MGS 3: Subsistence), sometimes in form of collections (f.e. MGS Anniversary Collection, MGS Essential Collection).

I bought God of War 2 and MGS 3: Subsistence and a lot of PS2 platinum titles for my PS3 thanks to BC. But I'm sure you are also against any improved game version even if it is on the same platform... "MGS 3: Subsistence" is a scam for the buyers of the original "MGS 3: Snake Eater" and never should have existed!!!

The problem of reprints is that they have to have good calculations about the additional demand. Every reprint they don't sell is eating up the profits of the sold reprints. This problem disappeared with the digital distribution (PS Store, Xbox Marketplace, eShop, Steam, GOG.com....), since then they can offer older games again without worries about overprinting.

I don't intend Wii U exclusives to be exclusives forever, but Nintendo should have waited a decade or so to remaster most Wii U games instead of a couple of years.

Why should they wait that long if there is enough demand for an additional version (either on the same platform or on their next platform)? To give the first buyers of a console or game a good fuzzy feeling?

It's very simple: They make an offer for a console and if there are enough games that interest you, you can accept that offer. They don't make you any promises that the new platform will be successful (although they hope for it).

They don't make you any promises that they will wait x years before they make some of these games also available on their other systems. If they keep some of these games exclusive for a specific system is is not due to an obligation to the buyers of that system.

Magnus said:

For 30 years most Nintendo games stayed on the console they were originally released on, and you had to wait about a decade for those games to be remastered.

That ain't true. You could play Gameboy games on GBA, GBA games on DS, DS games on 3DS, GC games on Wii and Wii games on Wii U.

Magnus said:

None of the Virtual Boy titles were ever ported to other platforms, so even on systems that sold poorly you at least got something out of your investment.

That's your argument? The Virtual boy? These games weren't ported to other Nintendo systems because nobody wanted to play them on a TV or handheld screen and most of them were of poor quality. The obligation to the buyers of the Virtual Boy wasn't the main reason to decide against a port.

Magnus said:

But with Wii U they promised support instead of axing the console shortly after launch. Yet it is clear that they were deliberately misleading people to sell systems, because most Wii U games were ported to 3DS or Switch at launch, or after one of two years. This never happened before, and it is clear that they scammed Wii U owners to sell a console they were not willing to properly support. They should have canned the Wii U after launch, but instead they scammed gamers like me.

Can you show us how much support they promised? How many years of Wii U support they promised? How many AAA titles they promised? For which Wii U games they promise to let them Wii U exclusive forever? For which Wii U games they promised to wait x years until a port/remaster will be allowed? Please show us these press releases with specific details.

Of course they hoped that the Wii U will be a success and wanted to support the Wii U as long as possible. But Nintendo ain't your close friend, it is still a business. The well-being of the whole company is much more important than the well-being of one of their products. And if one of their products underperforms, they have to pull the emergengy brake to cut their losses.

I bought the Wii U to play games that wouldn't be on any other system for at least a decade. I bought the Wii U to play an exclusive Mario Kart, an exclusive Smash Bros., an exclusive Zelda plus other games that would be exclusive and stayed on Wii U, just like on every other Nintendo system. I didn't buy the system for beta Switch titles.

That's your personal problem if you bought a system and its games for exclusiveness which was never promised. And if you can only enjoy games if they are exclusive and can't stand the thought that a better version of a game later gets released on another system, I pity you.

Needs to stop. Sorry you didn't get to play those games, but you should have gotten a Wii U to play them, I did, and I really don't want to waste Switch space/development time with games I already played within the last 2-3 years. I want to play new original titles/sequels.

Boy, what a load of bullshit this post is.

The Wii U was never reasonably priced, it didn't get great support, but it did have some great 1st party content. The solution is common sense. Great Wii U games should be ported to Switch simply because its relatively easy to do and its more great content for Switch.

Frankly, I just wish these ports didn't cost $60.

If Nintendo promised support rather than pulling the plug early, the least that was expected of them was the same support all their other systems got for the last 30 years. They knew that, yet they still mislead people promising support they weren't willing to deliver. Businesses don't get to screw their customers to make more profits. They could have cut their losses right after launch, they didn't, instead they screwed people.

If I buy a failed system I expect the manufacturer to make my purchase be worthwhile in the end, and in the case of the Wii U that means exclusives. At least with Vita you got japanese third-party games on a portable.

They may as well just port all the following, spreading them out over the next few years (assuming Smash Deluxe is already happening):

Super Mario 3D World
Captain Toad
Pikmin 3
Bayonetta 1/2
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Original Splatoon (depending on what content S2 has)
Mario Maker (or Mario Maker 2.0)
Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD/Twilight Princess HD

Switch should be able to play everything possible from NES to Wii before that and GameBoy-to-3DS as well via it eShop.
