Forums - Gaming - Why the "hardware hate" is so big these days?

It could be annual or 6 month upgrades that get pushed out by mobile phone companies. You get a small increase in CPU or slightly better camera and the phone is basically the same phone. If you have money to burn you end up with stacks of iPhones and Samsung Galaxy and other smart phones. This is good so your kids and pets can now have a phone. You get that warm fuzzy feeling every time you upgrade your phones and contributing towards the great Capitalist system.

Not many people like Xbox in general, some people where upset with the PS4pro because they recently purchased a PS4, apart from that well the internet is generally negative to begin with.

Personally all innovations and new technology especially in the gaming space is a good thing the more consoles are sold the better AAA games sell the better the offerings will be for us gamers. Also we need strong competition. Remember how the PS4 put Xbox back on the right path in 2013, never forget.

Also many things like the ps4 supporting hard drives, people asking for backwards comp, which should be a given with ps5 is also pushed a bit from xbox taking those moves, maybe the next refresh will have a UHD drive its all good, keep the competition and hardware releases up in my opinion all 3 big players deserve a lot more love then they generally get.

I know I can personally be critical on Nintendo because the products they have released the last couple of generations havn't been my cup of tea but I will always want them to do well and sell a lot because they make excellent games and sony and microsoft still both have a lot to learn on how nintendo makes software. ^^

Maybe people don't want to buy a slightly upgraded console every 2-3 years?

How is going from 900p native to 4k native a "slight upgrade"?

Well if you are talking about the Scorpio, well then thats 4 years after the regular XB1. I would call the XB1S a slight upgrade.

Besides the PC community talking about specs kinda became a taboo the last years. There are even people actively rooting for things like PS4 Pro and Scorpio to fail because the idea of hardware revision thriving in the market is bad for some reason...

Is like graphics, it used to be very important but now being critical about graphics is seem as a bad thing.

It's not a new thing. Just people are more aware of people like this because of the internet.  More exposure and easier to post opinions so seems like more. I remember people were like this in the SNES vs Genesis era. It was like this PS1 vs N64.  Back when we argued about bits instead of flops these days some dude going on and on about the upcoming Xbox in 2001 how it was 256 bits vs PS2 and Dolphin measley 128 and hoped they failed. Since N64 era I have seen people saying Nintendo needs to fail to go 3rd party and X console/hand held will be their last. While Intellivision might be the first to say LULZ Atari gwafx sux in their ads. I don't think people caught onto that until BLAST PROCESSING..even tho SNES aside from CPU blew Genesis out of the water in every way.  Intellivision started it,SEGA made it memorable and Sony and MS made it the deciding factor. I never fall for flops or bits or whatever anymore. Personally just after the library. Few hours ago went from playing my HD PS4 game to my glorious 320P game on Genesis in the other room on a CRT. Power matters to an extent but yeah not the end all. Silly people act like it does.

I hope all 3 do well and I REALLY hope MS does more to get a more diverse library. Competition is good.

People hate whatever they don't have. They don't want to feel like they're missing something.

It's also known as jealousy.  Pure and simple.

Well if you are talking about the Scorpio, well then thats 4 years after the regular XB1. I would call the XB1S a slight upgrade.

I would even call the PS4 pro a slight upgrade, concidering only one component truely was replaced, but people might disagree. the XB1S is almost not worth being called an upgrade from a technical perspecive (obv. its better looking).

The PS4 is more powerfull then the Xbox One and to be honest in 2013 the consoles where both quite underpowered but ESPECIALLY the xbox one, now the Scorpio will be significantly more powerfull then the PS4 Pro and since the base console is less powerfull then the base PS4 was the different will be much bigger.

I would call the difference between Xbox One and PS4 originally quite small but people made a big deal about it. It will be suprising to see if the general audience will make the same fuzz about the difference betwen the Pro and the Scorpio, altough they didn't launch at the same date like the original consoles did the difference will be much more significant.

Anyway, from 900P to 4K is a night- and day difference.

Criticism of revisions like Slim versions or versions with added storage is one thing, I find it strange, but I understand the anger towards revisions with higher specs. It creates an unstable environment for consumers and it defeats one of the main philosophies behind console gaming; everyone's the same, and this is an argument that has been used against PC gamers for a long time, the chasing specs part and upgrading to keep up with gaming.
It also creates somewhat of a headache for developers, especially if there's more than one revisions in any single generation, that would likely entail that the original can't even run the same generation shaders and effects as the newest addition, scaling that takes time and money and a potentially divided audience is not good news for them.

I understand why it's being done though, I wrote in here about this a few years back, the increased need for revision and added features to keep up with the convenience segment that is now driving overall market momentum in consumer electronics, and static products like consoles are more prone to falling behind on tech and perceived value.

oh sure XB1S is a slight upgrade, but it's just a better than usual slim version. Those have been around for generations.
